• Ethnic & ideological differences led to conflict w/in these empires

alliances (Triple Entente, Triple Alliance)

US Neutrality: Submarine Warfare

• Germany’s use of unrestricted submarine warfare affected US public opinion on the War

without warning rather than following prize regulation___

US Neutrality: Mexico

• __Wilson was re-elected in 1916 on the slogan “he kept us out of war”__

war, Mexico would regain their lost territory__

– Promoted diplomacy instead of war declaration
