The aforementioned studies have substantial value in this study for the reason
that they deals with the factors affecting the track and strand choice of students in
senior high school.
The present study is analogous to the different studies conducted by different
researchers because the researchers also considered student-related factors, family-
related factors, and socioeconomic factors as the factors affects the career preference.
Though, this also includes the level of satisfaction of the students on their chosen
strand and track. Furthermore, the study was conducted in senior high school in a
rural area unlike those above-mentioned studies that were conducted in urban places.
Creativity, trial and error, decision-making, and sound judgment are all
required in career choices. To create and cultivate an interest in a given vocation, it is
vital to have prior understanding about that career. Self-defining activities that are
vital for one's soul, heart, and power are powerfully pulled to passion. A person's
professional success is best achieved when his course selection is based on the correct
career for his talent, personality, background, and intelligence. Many students make
judgments based on their personal preferences rather than what the work market
requires. According to the findings, understanding entrepreneurship and its processes
requires passion (Magdadaro, 2020).
Literature review
The researchers discussed the implementation of the additional two years in the
Philippine high school system. As part of the program, students are set to choose one
track from ten academic strands. With several factors to consider, the selection of a
career path may be difficult for a student. The researcher proposed a study that aims
to create a tool that will guide students in choosing a particular career track using
Social Cognitive Career Theory (SCCT) and the analytic hierarchy process (AHP). To
identify the factors in considering the selection of career, the researchers used the
SCCT, whereas the AHP was used in ranking the career tracks according to these
factors. Evaluation of the tool in terms of design, navigation, and utility was also
conducted on more than 150 Grade 10 students using pilot testing (Gestiada,
Nazareno & Roxas-Villanueva, 2017).
According to the study of Rafanan et al. (2020), the artificial neural network approach
can be used in predicting the career strand of incoming senior high school students.
The K-12 program gives additional two years in the students’ basic education, and
these ancillary years allow senior high school students to take courses under the core
curriculum and the track of choice. Each student must select one track to pursue that
can equip him/her with skills to prepare for the future. Prediction of choice of a career
track in senior high school is advantageous for educational institutions since it gives
insights that can help them develop vital programs beneficial for students learning in
school. In this study, the applied artificial neural network (ANN) to predict the career
strand based on the students' grades in five major subjects. Different ANN models
have been considered and compared.
