This learning material hopes to engage the learners in guided and independent
learning activities at their own pace and time. Further, this also aims to help learners
acquire the needed 21st century skills especially the 5 Cs, namely: Communication,
Collaboration, Creativity, Critical Thinking, and Character while taking into
consideration their needs and circumstances.
In addition to the material in the main text, you will also see this box in the
body of the module:
As a facilitator you are expected to orient the learners on how to use this
module. You also need to keep track of the learners' progress while allowing them to
manage their own learning. Moreover, you are expected to encourage and assist the
learners as they do the tasks included in the module.
For the Learner:
This module was designed to provide you with fun and meaningful
opportunities for guided and independent learning at your own pace and time. You
will be enabled to process the contents of the learning material while being an active
learner.
Posttest - This measures how much you have learned from the
entire module.
EXPECTATIONS
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
1. define electrical supplies and materials;
2. identify the different electrical supplies and materials; and
3. describe the use of electrical tools and equipment.
PRETEST
1. Convenience Outlet
It is a device that acts as a convenient
source of electrical energy for current consuming
appliances. It is where the male plug of an appliance is
inserted and usually fastened on the wall or connected
in an extension cord. It maybe single, duplex, triplex
or multiplex and could be surface type or flush type.
2. Male Plug
It is a device inserted to a convenience
outlet to conduct electric current. A flat cord is
attached to it at one end and the another end is
connected to a current consuming instrument or
appliance.
3. Lamp Holders
These are devices that hold and protect the lamp
and are also called as “Lamp Sockets/Receptacles”.
These come in many designs and sizes. They are
classified as flush, hanging (weather proof/chain) and
surface types.
4. Switch
It is a device that connects and disconnects
the flow of electric current in a circuit. It comes
in various shapes, designs, and types and are
classified as hanging, flush, and surface types.
5. Fuse
It is a circuit protective device that
automatically blows and cut the current when
over load or short circuit happens.
6. Circuit Breaker
It is a protective device used to
automatically cuts the current when trouble in
the circuit occurs such as short circuit or
overload.
7. Junction Box
It is an octagonal shaped electrical material
where the connections or joints of wires are being
done. It is also where the flush type lamp holder
is attached. This could be made of metal or
plastic (PVC) Polyvinylchloride.
8. Utility Box
It is a rectangular shaped metallic or
plastic (PVC) material in which flush type
convenience outlet and switch is attached.
9. Flat Cord
It is a duplex stranded wire used for
temporary wiring installation and commonly
used in extension cord assembly. It comes in a
roll of 150 meters and gauge size of # 18 to gauge
# 12 awg (American wire gauge).
12. Clamps
These are electrical materials used
to hold and anchor electrical conduits
in its proper position.
13. Connectors
These are used to attach metallic
or non-metallic conduit to the junction
or utility boxes.
ACTIVITIES
I. Directions: Answer the crossword puzzle below. Copy and answer in your T.L.E.
notebook.
Across
1. It is where the flush
type lamp holder is
attached.
5. Protective device that
blows and cut the
current when short
circuit happens
Down
2. Allows the electrical
current to flow
through it
3. A device inserted to
a convenience outlet
to conduct electric
current.
4. Connects and
disconnects flow of
electricity
II. Directions: Answer the questions in complete sentence/s. Write the answers in
your notebook.
VALUING
According to the survey done by Philippine Statistics Authority, these are
cases of occupational injuries with workdays lost in establishments employing 20 or
more workers in the construction industry last 2013.
Directions: Study the parts of the extension cord you have at home. Can you name
the different materials used to assemble an extension cord? What do you think are
the tools needed in assembling it? Complete the Project Plan (Making an Extension
Cord) below by supplying the missing information.
