Number sentence is a mathematical
expression that uses numbers, symbols,
and an equal or inequality sign to
represent a problem.

To learn how to construct an addition or

subtraction number sentence you have to
learn first the symbols used in them.

The symbol used to add a number from a

given number is the plus sign, in symbol it
is written as +.

On the other hand, to subtract a number

from a given number, we use minus sign
written as -.

Then an equal sign is used to how

equivalence, written as =.

Let us have an example:

Addition Sentence Subtraction Sentence

12 + 15 = 27 27 – 12 =15
10 + 10 = 20 20 – 10 = 10
5 + 5 + 10 10 – 5 = 5

This time I will teach you how to

construct your own number sentence.
1. What would be the number sentence if
you have one-peso coin then your mother
gave you another five-peso coin?

Answer:
The number sentence would be 1+5=6.
My total money would be 6 pesos.

2. What would be the number sentence if

you have ten slices of bread then you gave
seven of it to your sister?

Answer:
The number sentence would be 10-7=3.
There will be 3 slices of bread left for me.

3. Three apples plus two apples is equal to

seven apples minus two apples.

Answer:
The number sentence would be 3+2=7-2
The answer is 5.

C.Concept Formation
