The knowledge possessed by Bedouins is an interesting aspect, clearly

reflected on the principles of adaptation in the most difficult living environ-
ments in a manner that takes the desert as a mysterious spot through which
we can understand the contradictions that manifest among many examples
such as mirage and oasis within a contemporary visual form depends on the
interaction between light and sand in a way that takes from the environment
and the state of endeavor to provide security, the elements of which are to
reveal aspects of the knowledge possessed by the residents of desert on the
locomotion in general. The work forms metaphorical dividing line and
virtually secure surroundings in terms of presence and direction The circle
reflects the current state of safety during the journey, and the stick that
represents the direction that places the city of Riyadh as a destination for
certainty in arriving without yearning for the nearby swarm by forming a
luminous floor contains sand in the circle, which constitutes an interactive
spot that makes the circle floor a drawing space using sand and light, while
retaining the light emanating from the stick that determines the destination
during the resumption of he journey In addition of the sound system that
reflects the calm of the desert. The work depends on the sensory interaction
and the true personification of the sense of security emanating from the
circle and the certainty it contains in the confirmation of the destination. The
work entrenches trust in inherited experiences and their usefulness, as
Bedouin knowledge is embedded by visually documenting them.
A Path You Light
Artist - Pharah Al-Ghalib & Amr Abuzaid
Venue : Noor Riyadh 2023

A Path You Light is a site-specific interactive installation that is brought

to life by visitors’ movement through it. Within the installation’s interior,
LED panels are strategically embedded along one side of the tunnel.
Motion-sensorsthroughout the tunnel act as a responsive medium,
detecting movement and triggering the LED nodes near the figure.
This interaction enables the visitor to become the driver of the installa-
tion, as the LED nodes lie dormant until they are triggered by the
presence and motion of the visitor. As visitors explore the tunnel, the
LED nodes respond dynamicallyto their motion, illuminating their
immediate vicinity and projecting contours of the visitors' silhouettes on
the opposing wall. On the opposite side of the tunnel, the wall is
constructed in textured glass that blur the interior of the tunnel while
allowing the light to seep from within. As the figures block the light
from one wall onto the other, the result on the exterior of the installa-
tion on the translucent wall is a halo of light surrounding each figure’s
shadow as they journey through the installation. This creates a play of
light and shadow for both the visitors inside and out. As visitors traverse
the tunnel, they find themselves both the conductor and the subject of
this living artwork.
A subtle message of hope lies in the link between movement and illumi-
nation. The ephemeral silhouettes cast on the exterior wall, visible to
the outside viewers, hint at the movements unfolding within. The
anonymity of the figures to the outside viewer is central to the installa-
tion, allowing the visitor a private experience while conversely being at
the heart of a public art installation. As their silhouettes are intentionally
pixelated through the textured glass, the identity of the visitor is
rendered irrelevant to their affect. A Path You Light is meant to evoke a
visceral experience that celebrates namelessness in a fame-crazed era.
Chromatic Aberration
Artist - Nawaf Alhuhaimi
Venue : Noor Riyadh 2023

With the advances of the modern technological world, we become ever more lost in our individu-
alized and carefully curated digital spheres. We tend to forget ourselves and others with increas-
ingly addictive and mind-numbing distractions. Our ideas and perceptions of people are filtered
through facades of ones and zeroes. We tend to forget ourselves and others, becoming used to
how we look threw a distorting camera lens.
Shadow is the Cause, Light is the Effect
Who has no Shadow, has no Soul
Artist - Mohammad Al Faraj
Venue : Noor Riyadh 2023

The field at night is filled with shadows, silhouettes, blackened images of creatures and sounds. The echoes of the day are heard
at night, and seen as shadows, for you can say that the echo of an image an object is its shadow. The image, the sound is one part
of truth. The shadow, the echo is another part of truth. And only by merging the two full truths can manifest.

Dust to Dust
Artist - Hayat Osamah
Venue : Noor Riyadh 2023

Dust to Dust; is a visual artwork that explores the themes of

oneness, transience, and self-mirrored image through the
innovative use of bio-textile (developed and formulated through
the artists previous bodies of work) and dynamic lighting.
Inspired by using the organic shapes of sand dunes, the installa-
tion serves as a metaphor for the temporal nature of our physical
existence and the interconnectedness of humanity. Within one
of the dune structures, there will be a deliberate hole or opening
that allows sunlight to penetrate and cast a focused beam of
light onto the surrounding area, This intentional element
represents the importance of self-reflection as a means to illumi-
nate and recognize the "other" beyond surface-level differenc-
es. It encourages visitors to have interaction in introspection and
contemplate the profound connection that exists between us all,
despite our various backgrounds. Visitors to the installation can
be invited to walk via the space, experiencing the interplay of
colours, textures, and the lights consequences. The goal is to
create an immersive environment that sparks contemplation and
encourages a experience of interconnectedness and empathy
V1:S1:0NS
Artist - Sultan Bin Fahad
Venue : Noor Riyadh 2023

Visions passing through a slot of stone, quiet moments

glowing with light, turned upside down and reflected in
a trap of trapezoid. Shadows of the past, glimmers of
the future, the trails of history and the potential of
what’s to come marked in glass, the Saudi identity
frozen in time. Artist Sultan bin Fahd explores themes
of national identity and temporal phases as expressed
by light in new and exciting forms with V1:S1:0NS, an
art installation that embraces a retro-futuristic bent and
channels classic science fiction. Unlike most of his other
works, V1:S1:0NS diverges in that its structure won’t be
as readily available for exploration by general audienc-
es; the trapezoidal structure won’t be open for
entrance and walking around, rather viewers will be
able to experience the work through a slit shining a
beacon of light. The interior of the structure holds in it
stained glass shapes symbolically resonant to Saudi
cultural identity, hung underneath the slit and reflected
outwardly to the audience through a labyrinth of
mirrors, engaging the imagination with a blossom of
color and glittering lights. This, in effect, seeks to
replicate how optical functions work, drawing on the
ways in which the eyes process light in the reception of
images.
Tree House
Artist - Ayman Yossri Dayban
Venue : Noor Riyadh 2023

Yossri Daydban actively searches for clarity about identity and new notions
of citizenry. Conceived and produced for this exhibition, Tree House
discusses his approach to the self which directly relates to a home he creat-
ed during his residency in Detroit, one that is not defined by geography,
but rather by a community. The work emphasizes his relationship with his
current place of residence, where the community brought together under
one floor is felt.
Journey Through the
Ripples of the Sand
Artist - Hana Almilli
Venue : Noor Riyadh 2023

Journey Through the Ripples of the Sand is textile installation is a sensory

and visual odyssey. It invites the viewer to embark on a journey through the
desert, transporting them to a realm of contemplation and introspection.
Through this journey, the installation evokes a sense of conclusion to
feelings of alienation, leading to the realization that we are not alone. We
are all woven from the same fabric of sand above and below the earth,
connecting us to both the living and the dead, nature and its creatures,
binding us as one. The piece is a cocoon encapsulating the feeling of being
embraced by the vast, desolate desert where life begins and ends. The
installation’s circular maze-like construction is inspired by and mimics the
dance of plants in the desert, echoing the unity and harmony found in
nature and within us. The white silk organza adds a layer reminiscent of the
ever-changing aspects of life. The installation also features an auditory
dimension with a poem recited in the middle of the desert, reminding us of
our interconnectedness. The fiber optic light moves while the poem is
recited, creating a mesmerizing aura that immerses the viewer in its cocoon.
As the viewer navigates through the maze, they are enveloped in a world of
light and sound, an ephemeral representation of life’s transient nature.
The Lost Star
Artist - Abdullah Almoudi
Venue : Noor Riyadh 2023

The Lost Star is a glowing landscape oasis that represent a

star falling into the landscape, Light Islamically is repre-
sented as guidance in a spiritual and physical sense, and
for many years the ancient Arabs used stars as a visual
compass to guide them through the desert. This oasis is
beacon of hope where people can discover and go
through which symbolizes our connection back to the stars
and landscape. It’s both a spiritual experience, and a physi-
cal one that questions he notion of guidance and its impor-
tance in the physical and the metaphysical.
When lost in the desert, follow the star and you will go
home. The Suhiel, considered brightest star in the galaxy
has become folklore within the community, that represents
love and guidance as many ancient Arab poets and scien-
tist use the star as beacon of guidance. The suhiel has
continuously been used in the Saudi culture, through
music, poems and old fantastical stories.
Last Seen
Artist - Huda Alnasir
Venue : Noor Riyadh 2023

Last Seen is a site specific work that comprises of various doors

slightly ajar with a light shining through the opening, the installation
that manage to capture the specific tension of the unknown. The
artist has expressed that like other major metropolitan cities, Riyadh
is a city that never sleeps, which seems as if the city collects the
sunlight that shines down on it all day behind her doors, and that the
lights try to escape to experience the Riyadh nights. The open doors
are also a sign of life and are thought of optimistically as being open
always ready to welcome visitors. Alnasir also uses the installation as
a way to embody the metaphor or Nawarat Alriyadh - which is an
expression that is said to visitors when arriving to Riyadh that trans-
lates to ”Riyadh is illuminated because of you”.
Memo Light
Artist - Arwa Alneami
Venue : Noor Riyadh 2023

Memo Light an intervention in the

landscape in the form of 13 derelict
bumper cars that have been given a
new lease on life by the artist. Alneami
has transported the bumper cars from
Al-Salam park in Abha to Al-Salam Park
in Riyadh, in addition to their reloca-
tion, the artist has chosen to adorn the
bumper cars with neon lights as well as
LED strip lights.
The lights decorate the vehicles and
highlight their contours and the pole
on the back of the car that would lead
up to a wire grid in the ride's ceiling
that would power the cars.

The central piece of the sculpture is a blue shape, which bends and curves to form a complex undulating
surface, capturing a wide spectrum of light and shadow. It appears almost fabric-like but is made of
metal mesh coated with cement and a mud mixture, to give a texture that is reminiscent of traditional
adobe, a finish common to the historic dwellings of the region. Alphaplus completed this art fabrication
and Installation in 21 days, majority of work was done in our studio facility. This involved multi talented
art team to compose this artwork to its final look
Life
Artist - Dr. Zahra Alghamdi
Venue : Noor Riyadh 2023

In the barren desert, there is no sound or light on the horizon. The sand dunes stretch for vast
distances without any noticeable movement. The desert is characterized by its quietness,
where one can hear the deep silence that cannot move anything in this barren land. However,
the desert is constantly changing. Sometimes the sand dunes move in different shapes due
to the winds that sweep through it, and the desert turns into an artistic painting of changing
sand colors. In my installation work (Life), I mixed transparent plastic with soil and made many
sculptural treatments through the burning technique to create deep and surface gaps
naturally. The golden light seeps through these gaps and also through the transparent surfac-
es, illuminating the dry sand that suffers from thirst and drought. Through this warm light, life
can emerge again in this barren land. Small plants begin to appear and grow slowly, and
small insects and animals that live on the new plants spread. Through this continuous growth,
the barren desert transforms into a lively land full of life and movement. As soon as the warm
and vibrant light spreads in this fertile land, everything in the surrounding area is trans-
formed. The barren sands transform into diverse and colorful terrains, and the dead desert
turns into a diverse and lively environment. In this way, the scared and vibrant light can be
transformed into a driving force for life in distant and remote places. Thanks to this warm
light, the barren land can sprout life and live again.
Resonance
Artist - Basmah Kaki & Hessa Al Bader & Hussam Dakkak.
Venue : Noor Riyadh 2023

Resonance One’s perception and memory of a location is deeply rooted in the sensory experience of the place. Light and sound
(Athan) play an instrumental role in the formation of everyday events and the seasonal transformations of the city. They are an
integral parameter to understand how the city functions and are crucial when discussing the identity of the place. Sound stands as
a marker of time, signaled through Athan that summons all Muslims to prayer, a common denominator across the urban domain of
the city. The installation maps the occurrence of the Athan five times a day. Recordings of the Athan are played on speakers that
emit sequences of tones and frequency waves channeled into a large pool of water, creating reverberations on the water›s surface.
The vessel is illuminated by light that is reflected and refracted by the water it›s holding, projecting a mirage of shadow and light
onto the walls of KAFD grand mosque. Sound becomes a tool that allows us to sculpt water into a dynamic shifting landscape,
making the invisible visible through light maps of the sound of Athan. The vessel or pool of water is encircled by comfortable seating,
inviting visitors to recline and enter a meditative state looking up at the projections and listening to the sound

Al - Asha
Venue : MOC Riyadh

The romantic poet, Al-A'sha's writings were way ahead of their time. Al-A'sha used his poetry skills to charm many and
his name came from the fact that he was blind. Despite this he travelled from town to town on camelback with only a
harp. To commemorate the prolific writer, we designed an event to highlight and preserve this part of our Saudi
heritage. This project was commissioned by the Saudia Arabia Ministry of Culture and we collaborated with Sidra to
bring this event to life. Alphaplus created a village combining traditional building techniques and materials with the
latest digital technologies to create a memorable experiential journey. Concept development, user journey, and expe-
rience to building the city. We worked with specialized artisans to build structures using traditional mud techniques
and construction methods. We design-built an architectural installation that integrated a verse of the writer's poem on
its facade and that housed an exhibition celebrating the poet's life, journey, and achievements. We also used projec-
tion mapping on the main entry gates, to tell the author's story.
