Day – 1 (25/10/2021)

Session I & Session II :

During the department orientation programme HOD, Programme


Coordinator, our tutor and other professors delivered their speech.
They gave a clear clarification about our college and the syllabus. I was
glad to know that in our final year our college would celebrate its 75th
anniversary. They informed the dress code and they said that EEE
department classroom is located in E Block in the ground floor. They
spoke about centers of excellence, distinguished alumni of our
department, and the companies visiting our campus for placement.
They also said that there is a library in our college with a large number
of books, CDs and DVDs.

Session III:

A doctor spoke about health. He told the importance of drinking


adequate amount of water, having a proper diet and exercising
regularly. He said that human beings can't concentrate on a specific
thing for more than 9 seconds because of increased screen time. So he
asked us to reduce screen time. He also spoke about the importance of
taking vaccines.

Session IV:

Col. Peter Celestine addressed in this session. I came to know about the
history of NCC. He spoke about the benefits of being a NCC cadet. He
said that NCC cadets will have reservation in higher studies and jobs in

terms of bonus marks. He told that being a NCC cadet one could get the
chance to interact with celebrities and higher officials like chiefs of
Indian defense forces and even president of India. I understood that
being a NCC cadet, I will be able to develop my personality, my
leadership quality and even my communication skills. His speech
inspired us to join NCC.

Session V:

Physical director of our college gave us the reason for having sports in
an engineering college. He explained the importance of sports. He
gave us the list of games in our college , sports competitions, and
clarified our doubts regarding sports. He said that participating in
games help us to enhance our personality and leadership quality. I
came to know about sepak takraw for the first time.
Day – 2 (26/10/2021)

Yoga/Exercise Session:

Our physical director started this session with a verse from thirukkural.
He said that eyes are affected because of long screen time. So we
started with eye ball movements. Then we do some varma exercises.
We did some warm up exercises. Then we went on with 7 level 1
exercises. Finally we relaxed our body. At the end of the session our
physical director cleared our doubts.

Session I:

Dr.Murugananthan spoke about the role of chemistry in engineering.


He said that transistors are made up of silicone and transparent
polymers are used to make screens which are obviously applications of
chemistry. He asked about the elements that have caused a great
revolution and spoke about it. He asked about the elements in Human
body and we had a discussion on it. Then he spoke about the evolution
of computers from those having vacuum tubes to those having
microprocessors. Thus he made clear that Chemistry plays an important
role in engineering and falsified the pseudo fact that chemistry has
nothing to do with engineering.

Session II:

Our Maths Professor commenced this session by asking us to give the


definition of electrical engineering and asked us the reason for choosing
electrical and electronics engineering. She asked our views

about mathematics and she expressed her views about mathematics.


She spoke about Walkie Scorchie , a sky scraper , in UK that is
responsible for melting of cars parked in a specific location because of a
parabolic structure on its top. She spoke about the use of parabolic dish
antennas for receiving radio signals. She said that even if we had a top
end dish antenna and a Television we need mathematics to establish
the connection, that is the dish antenna has to be set at a specific
angle. Then she told the mathematics syllabus and added that in
college we will learn the application of calculus topics that we learnt in
Higher Secondary education. From her speech one could witness that
mathematics is very important for engineering.

Session III:

Faculties from Humanities department addressed in this session. They


said that they are ready to teach us Economics, Psychology, and other
subjects. They will help us to develop our personality. They said that
they conduct many programmes to enchance our personality,
leadership skill, communication skill and interpersonal skills. They also
told that UPSC coaching course is offered in our college from second
year and specified that there are many successful alumni in this
regards. They said that they will also help us to write other competitive
exams. They said that the courses offered by humanities department
help us to benefit the society by being an engineer. Finally one of the
faculties concluded the session by narrating two informative and
interesting stories.

Session IV:

G.R.Karpagam Madam gave her presentation about G.R.D. library in our


college campus. I came to know that there are presently over 2.55 lakhs
books including books for competitive exams, 12943 CDs/DVDs and 206
printed journals in the G.R.D. library and that it has access to 9000
online electronic journals. In addition to that it is really good to have a
digital library with 60 computers running on high speed internet. I feel
happy to know that the library can be easily accessed through an online
portal and another happy thing is that we can recommend new books
that is not in the library. The library also offers services like reference
service and current awareness service. G.R.Karpagam Madam included
a video of virtual tour of G.R.D. Library in her presentation which
covered all the aspects of the library.

Session V:

Angamuthu sir made this session a very good interactive session. He


asked our opinion about the previous sessions. He gave a clear
explanation of the photo and video assignments. He gave tutorials on
how to use Google meet and Google classroom. He spoke about the
stuff that can be got by accessing the official website of our college. He
also spoke a little bit about our Academics. He also told us how to avail
the scholarship option. In the end he cleared all our doubts. His speech
was really pleasing that he made us feel relaxed through his speech.
Day – 3 (27/10/2021)

Yoga/Exercise Session:

Our Physical Director commenced this session with a new verse of


thirukkural. Then we moved on to exercises. We began with eye
exercises (Eyeball movement, Puruva Varma, Nakshatra Kala Varma and
Mandhira Kala Varma) and continued doing Ear exercises, Neck
massage, Shoulder exercises, Head exercises and some bending
exercises. Then we entered the main exercise session which includes
seven Level 1 exercises (Jumping Jacks, Stepping exercise, Pushups,
Squats, Planks and the rest). At the end we relaxed all our body
muscles. There was an interruption in video connectivity owing to
heavy traffic. Our physical director assured that everything would be
set right soon and cleared our other doubts.

Session I:

Dr.Amuda madam started talking about the location of physics


department in our college. Then she told how physics have
revolutionised our life. She said that our college promotes research
activities and that we have the required equipments for research in our
college. She spoke about entrepreneurship too. She said that exploring
spirit is very important for engineers. She said that to be a successful
engineer we have to innovate things ,that is, to find new methods to
solve the various problems in our life and she added that it would give
us immense happiness. She told a real story about an entrepreneur
who became successful because of his innovative ideas. She expressed

her views about the evolution of technology and she shared a slide
about quantum computer in her presentation. She said that now we
could communicate with each other in no time because of
advancement in technology since discovery of electromagnetic waves.
She shared some facts about biomimicry and she told an example
(Biomimicry based on microprojections in feet of gecko lizards). She
motivated us to do programming and gave us hope that we could
master in programming in a period of two months.

Session II:

Murugananthan sir gave an introduction to our syllabus. He started


with balanced bands and conduction bands in atoms. Then he spoke
about doping and asked what we know about doping. He explained
Crystal defects (Frenkel defect and schottky defect). He spoke about the
application of polymers in various fields. Mainly he spoke about poly
isoprenes, poly ethylene and polypropylene. He told that isoprenes are
rubbers and isoethylenes and isopropylenes are used in manufacturing
medical equipments. He also spoke about graphene, fullerene and
nanotube and asked our understandings about those allotropes of
carbon. The he spoke about optoelectronics and briefly explained
photoelectroc effect. He also recommended us some books for
reference.

Session III:

Dr.Jayashree madam and Vasanthamani madam addressed about the


institution's innovation council in this session. They gave a brief

explanation about IIC and its duties. They spoke about IIC activities
calendar, the innovation support system and the Cisco thingqbator
programme. They said that they receive 1000 applications for funding
new innovative projects. They mentioned that we can patent our ideas
and copyright our logos through IIC and that shortlisted applications for
new innovative projects will be funded through IIC . They also spoke
about our seniors who have availed funding and other benefits through
IIC and also about the competitions for people with new innovative
ideas through the Cisco thingqbator programme. They said that
innovation and entrepreneurship activities are provided with academic
processes and that IIC helps students to establish start-up companies
even by offering academic credits. They said that they also encourage
students to participate in various hackathons. They also informed us
that meritorious ideas will definitely be funded and appreciated. At the
end of the session they clarified our doubts.

Session IV:

Our maths professor commenced this session by having some casual


chats with us. Then she asked about the thing that she taught us in the
previous session. She stressed the fact that Mathematics help us make
complicate things simple. She gave us a numerical problem regarding
Euler's Equation. Then she proved Euler's Equation by giving a clear
explanation. She asked about calculus and told that integration help us
make complicate things simple in a way. She really made this session
very interesting.
Day – 4 (28/10/2021)

Yoga/Exercise Session:

Our Physical Director commenced this session with a new verse of


thirukkural. Then we moved on to exercises. We began with eye
exercises (Eyeball movement, Puruva Varma, Nakshatra Kala Varma and

massage, Shoulder exercises, Head exercises and some bending
exercises. Then we entered the main exercise session which includes

Session I:

Dr.Amuda madam addressed in this session. She insisted us to develop


skills in addition to studying the theory to become successful engineers.
She encouraged us to join the clubs in our college to develop our skills.
She said that we all should be with a research attitude and should
involve in research since first year of undergraduate course and said
that provoking sense of innovation is the objective of the engineering
course. She spoke about Nation Programme on Technology Enhanced
Learning that provides e-learning facility through video lectures which
is functioning also in our college library. She spoke about the physics
laboratory courses for us that is provided in our first year of
ungergraduate course. She said that we should use a record note to
record the observations while conducting experiments in our college

laboratory and informed us that there are many devices in our college
laboratory. She said that we have to do 8 experiments out of 12
experiments for our first semester laboratory course and briefly
illustrated an experiment of determining fibre thickness using air wedge
method. She spoke about opticle fibres and fibre glass too which are all
new innovations. She also informed the text books for our course and
recommended us some books for reference. She shared a slide that
portrays the outcomes of the laboratory course and she spoke about
the assessment pattern for both theory and practical exam. At the end
of the session she clarified our doubts.

Session II:

Our maths professor commenced this session by inquiring about the


previous session. Then she asked our understanding about
differentiation and she briefly explained limits. She helped us
understand limits better using a very interesting game in which the
rabbit escaped from a fox using its maths knowledge. She spoke about
the method of finding the area of an indefinite figure using integration
and finally she taught an example sum. I must mention that the class
was very interesting and it was not boring in any way.

Session III:

Dr.Menaka Reno madam welcomed is and commenced the session.


Initially she talk about the importance of English as a link language. She
said that English is the window of the world and the language for
science, technology, employment and trade. She said that we need

English to share our research outcomes, interact with other students in


the class and to participate in discussions. She shared some interesting
facts about English that it is the official language of the air, it used to
have 29 letters instead of the current 26 and a new word is added to
the English dictionary every 2 hours. I came to know about many other
new terms. Then Prabhavathi madam gave her speech. She spoke
about the courses offered by the English department in our college, the
tasks and assignments offered by them and also about our English
syllabus. She said that the tasks and assignments given by them help us
to develop many soft skills. She let us know how English helps
engineers. Then again Dr.Menaka Reno madam gave her speech. She
said about the diagnostic test in English on 29/10/2021. She prescribed
a book for reference and told us how to get that book. At the end of the
session, they clarified our doubts.

Session IV:

Dr.Venkatesan sir gave his speech in this session. He briefly spoke


about the five generations of computer. From that I was able to know
that the first, second, third, fourth and fifth generation computers are
vacuum tube computers, transistor computers, integrated circuit-based
computers, microprocessor-based computers and ultra large scale
information technology-based computers respectively. He then spoke
about the features of fifth generation computers and artificial
intelligence. He explained the characteristics, functionalities,
advantages and disadvantages of the computer. He told the definitions
of hardware and software. He gave a brief explanation of programming

language. He spoke about the types of programming language and he


said that the next session would be a continuation of that session. At
the end of the session, he clarified our doubts.

Session V:

A representative of NSS of our college addressed in this session. He


commenced this session by speaking about the history of NSS. I came to
know that NSS was adopted in the first five year plan of the
government of India in 1958 and that it was launched in 15th
September of 1969 at 37 universities in all states of India by the then
union education minister V.K.R.V.Rao. Then he spoke about the
objectives of NSS (Personality development, Understanding
Community, Finding practical solutions to community problems,
Gaining skills in mobilizing community participation, Leadership quality
development, Practice of national integration and social harmony). The
motto of NSS 'NOT ME BUT YOU' really inspired me. I was also able to
know about the symbol, aims and duties of NSS. He also let us know
how to enroll in NSS. He finally spoke about NSS day. Then another
representative of NSS of PSG tech spoke about the NSS units,
Programme Officers, Secretaries, Student Coordinators, Joint-
Secretaries and the Volunteers. He shared some activities carried out
by the Volunteers for the past three years. He finally spoke about the
special camps and webinars conducted by NSS. At the end of the
session a video was played portraying the activities carried out by NSS
volunteers of our college.
Day – 5 (29/10/2021)

Yoga/Exercise Session:

Our Physical Director commenced this session with a new verse of


thirukkural about helping others. Then he instructed us to observe him
carefully and to learn to do the exercises as we are going to do the
exercises on our own in the following week. Then we started doing
exercises. We began with eye exercises (Eyeball movement, Puruva
Varma, Nakshatra Kala Varma and Mandhira Kala Varma) and
continued doing Ear exercises, Neck massage, Shoulder exercises, Head
exercises and some bending exercises. Then he told us to do the seven
Level 1 exercises (Jumping Jacks, Stepping exercise, Pushups, Squats,
Planks and the rest). At the end our physical director discussed the
importance of doing warmup exercises. He said that the level 1
exercises help us perform the level 2 exercises easily. He said that a
fitness app would be launched by our college management. He gave us
some general tips and clarified our doubts.

Session I:

Our maths professor addressed in this session. She said that to visualise
mathematical problems we should know about functions. She briefly
explained linear and non-linear functions. Initially she drew the graph
of y=x and then explained how the graphs of y=x and y=-x are varied.
She said that from dy/dx of the function y, we could know how the
graph changes when a number is added or subtracted to the function.
Then she drew the graph of x+1 and taught us how to write it in

intercept form. She taught us how to draw the graph of y=(x-1)² and y=-
(x-1)² using the graphs of y=x²and y=-x² respectively. She also taught us
how to draw the graph of y=(x-1)² + 1 using the graph of y=x². She said
that those basics would help us sketch many other functions. She
briefly explained vertical line test, differentiable functions, periodic and
a periodic functions. She said that calculus, study of change, is used to
relate two different parameters. She mentioned that all the problems in
engineering would be solved using a mathematical way. She spoke
about the application of Fourier series in ECG at the end of the session.

Session II:

Dr.Venkatesan sir commenced the session by explaining an example


program clearly. He then spoke about program compilation, three
major components of an Information Processing system (Hardware -
Tangible computer part, Software - Non-tangible computer part,
Peopleware - People who use and operate the computer system),
Pointing devices (Trackball, Track point, Touchpad, Touchscreen,
Joystick, Light Pens, Stylus), Scanning devices (Optical scanners, Card
readers, Barcode readers, Character and mark recognition devices),
Printing devices (Dot matrix printer, Laser printer, Inkjet printer) and
Secondary storage devices (Floppy disk, Hard disk, CD Rom, Flash
memory cards, USB flash drives). He explained motherboard and spoke
about the components of motherboard namely microprocessor,
coprocessor, BIOS, expansion slot, Memory and Interconnecting
circuitry. He spoke about software and the two major types of software
(System software and Application software). From that I came to know

that Software and Programs are interchangeable. He let us know what


are Files and Extensions. He also told us the skills that we have to
possess to be a competent programmer , the skills that help the
programmers in the work place and gave us tips to develop those skills.
He then spoke about the steps in programming from problem definition
to maintenance. He taught us the characteristics of algorithm and many
flow chart symbols. Finally he visualised some programs by illustrating
the algorithms using flowchart. At the end of the session, he clarified
our doubts.

Session III:

A diagnostic test was conducted by the English Department of our


college during this session. The link for the test was posted in Google
Classroom.

Session IV and Session V:

One of the faculties of our college welcomed us to that session.


Muralidhar Devarajan sir gave his speech. He gave a very good
definition of Students Union. He said that we should take part in both
academic and extracurricular activities. He spoke about the history,
mission and vision of our college. He explained the structure of
Students Union. He introduced us the chief patron, patron, associate
deans, faculty advisors, chairperson, co-chairperson, men secretary,
women secretary and science secretary of Students Union of our
college. He spoke the events organised by Students Union and events
planned for the academic year 2021-2022. Then Suresh Kumar sir gave

his speech. He spoke about English Literary Society(ELS), its objectives


and events organised by ELS (Let's Talk, Debate, Spell Bee, Quiz, Wiki
Game, Verve, Collab, Taboo, Psych). Then Soundarrajan sir gave his
speech. He spoke about Students' Research Council, events (Kalam
Tech Talk, Math Olympiad, Design Thinking Workshop, Technovator,
Hackathon, Research Carnival) organised by the Students' Research
Council, its objectives and it's event partners. He introduced us the co-
ordinators and secretaries of our college. He clarified our doubts. Hema
Jegadeesan madam gave her speech. She spoke about CAP and Nature
Club, its duties, its achievements, fun events conducted by the club and
the activities planned for the academic year 2021-2022. She informed
us that we could know about the events of CAP and Nature club
through online platforms like YouTube, Instagram and Twitter. She let
us know about the national programme 'Nadi-ko-Jano'. She introduced
us the faculty advisors of CAP and Nature club. She also clarified our
doubts. Then V.M.Murugesan sir spoke about Tamil mandram. He
introduced us the members of Tamil mandram and spoke about the
various events organised by them and the competitions conducted by
them. He shared a video created by Tamil Mandram. Dr.Radhika
madam spoke about Global Leaders' Forum (GLF) and explained how it
promotes youth empowerment. She spoke about the flagship events
hosted by the members of GLF, achievements of GLF and shared many
photos regarding GLF. She clarified our doubts. Then one of the
faculties of our college clarified most of our doubts regarding clubs and
associations.
Day – 6 (30/10/2021)

Session I and Session II:

Those sessions were for grant-in-aid students only. Those sessions were
held from 9:45 a.m. to 12:00 noon. In those sessions representatives of
NCC of our college spoke about the events organised by NCC and its
achievements. They shared many photos of NCC events that were held
in our college. At the end of the session they shared the link for NCC
enrollment.
