Commerce OOPS Guidelines

Introduction

Project Objective: Identify the harmful commerce listings that people should not see on
Facebook/Instagram commerce platform and understand why we should not show these
products.

Basic Instructions

To access the rating tool:

1. Please make sure you are using a laptop or desktop running google chrome. There
are incompatibilities/instability with mobile devices.
2. Login here first: https://srt.facebook.com/
3. (While logged in here) open a new tab and log in here:
https://review.intern.facebook.com/intern/review/
4. Click on "Resume Reviewing" to begin rating your batch.

When you open the tool, you'll see a series of commerce products. You'll then be asked a short
set of questions to summarize your assessment of each product.

Your answers to each question should reflect your best judgment about what commerce
products are or are not appropriate for both the Facebook and Instagram community. When
assessing each product, you should NOT judge based on if the product is appealing or if
you are personally interested in this listing. Instead, please consider if the product falls into
one of below categories:
● Offensive - an offensive listing makes people feel hurt, upset, or angry. The listing may
not upset you, but consider if it is likely to be hurtful or undermine positive connections
for many people.
● Inappropriate (eg. sexually suggestive) - an inappropriate listing makes people feel upset
or disturbed. Those feelings may stem from the content in the listing itself. The listing
may not be troublesome for you, but consider if it is likely to be controversial or
undermine positive connections for many people.
● Harmful - A harmful product may be dangerous, damaging, hurtful, or unhealthy.
Consider if the product is likely to negatively affect the safety and well-being of people on
Instagram or Facebook.
● Other quality issues that you think this listing should not be shown to the general public.
Note that some products may not have any description or are in poor condition or have low
image resolution. If that’s the only problem with the product, we do not consider the product to
have quality issues and please rate the product to ‘No quality issue’ option.

Getting Started

What to Do Before Rating a listing

Before rating the listings, please make sure you understand the questions you will be asked
about each listing. If you need a reminder, review these guidelines one more time before you
begin

Questions 1 to 3
Question 1 (multiple choice): Which quality category does this listing belong to?
1. No quality issue
2. Has quality issue - offensive content (An offensive listing makes people feel hurt,
upset, or angry. The listing may not upset you, but consider if it is likely to be hurtful or
undermine positive connections for many people)
3. Has quality issue - inappropriate content (An inappropriate listing makes people feel
upset or disturbed. Those feelings may stem from the content in the listing itself. The
listing may not be troublesome for you, but consider if it is likely to be controversial or
undermine positive connections for many people)
4. Has quality issue - harmful content ( A harmful listing may be dangerous, damaging,
hurtful, or unhealthy. Consider if the product is likely to negatively affect the safety and
well-being of people on Instagram or Facebook.)
5. Has quality issue - other

If you select ‘No quality issue’ from question 1, you will not be asked about question 2 and 3
Question 2 (single choice): If there is a quality issue with the listing, do you think the
community should still see it?
1. Definitely should NOT see. Choose this option if many people are likely to have such a
negative reaction to the listing that they wouldn't want to see it at all, or it would
negatively impact their overall experience.
2. Maybe should NOT see. Choose this option if many people would prefer not to see the
listing if given a choice, but seeing it wouldn't impact their overall experience.
3. Doesn't matter if people see or do not see. Choose this option if the listing is neutral
and wouldn't generate either positive or negative reactions for many people.
4. Maybe should see. Choose this option if many people would prefer to see the listing if
given a choice, but if they didn't see it, that wouldn't impact their overall experience.

Question 3 Free Response

For this part, use your own words to answer the question.

Question 3: In your own words, why do you feel this product should not be shown to the
users (if there is no quality issue this question can be left empty)?
Please describe what went through your mind when you were looking at the listing. Why did you
feel it was not the kind of listing people should see on Facebook or Instagram? What elements
of the listing were offensive, harmful or inappropriate?
Examples

Harmful
A harmful product may be dangerous, damaging, hurtful, or unhealthy. Consider if the product is
likely to negatively affect the safety and well-being of people on Instagram or Facebook.
Inappropriate
An inappropriate listing makes people feel upset or disturbed. Those feelings may stem from the
content in the listing itself. The listing may not be troublesome for you, but consider if it is likely
to be controversial or undermine positive connections for many people.

Offensive
An offensive listing makes people feel hurt, upset, or angry. Those feelings may stem from
either the advertisement itself or the company promoted in the ad. The ad may not upset you,
but consider if it is likely to be hurtful or undermine positive connections for many people.
