6. A body falling under the effect of gravity is said to be in freefall.
a. Draw the velocity time graph of a freely falling object. (1)
b. Define uniform acceleration. (1)
7. h a speed of 126 km/h is brought to a stop within a distance of 200 m.

8. The position - time graph of two objects A and B are shown below.

9. Show that the area under the velocity time graph of an object moving with constant
acceleration in a straight line in a certain interval of time is equal to the displacement
covered by the object in that interval.

10. State and prove parallelogram law of vector addition.

11. An arrow is fired straight up, leaving the bow at 15 meters per second. If the air
resistance is negligible, how high will the arrow rise?

12. If horizontal range is equal to 4 times the maximum height, find the angle of projection.

13. What will be the effect on the maximum height of a projectile when its angle of
projection is changed from 30o to 60o, keeping the same initial velocity of the projection?

III. Question number 14 to 19 carry three scores each. Answer any five questions
(5 x 3 =15)
14. A ball is thrown vertically upwards with a velocity of 20 ms-1 from the top of a building.
The height of the point from where the ball is thrown is 25.0 m from the ground.
a. How high will the ball rise?
b. How long will it be before the ball hits the ground ?

15. A particle starts from rest and has an acceleration of 2 m/s2 for 10 seconds. After that, it
travels for 30 seconds at constant speed and then undergoes a retardation of 4 m/s2 and
comes back to rest. Find the total distance traveled by the particle.

16. Derive an expression for stopping distance in terms of initial velocity (u) and retardation
(a). If the initial speed is quadrupled keeping the retardation same, by how much will the
stopping distance change?

17. The blades of an aeroplane propeller are rotating at the rate of 600 revolutions per
minute. Calculate its angular velocity.

18. A man walks from point A(2,4) to point B(5,8) along some unknown path in 1s. Find the
average velocity of the man.

19. Classify the following into scalar and vector quantities.

IV. Question numbers 20 to 23 carry four scores each. Answer any three questions

20. A car is travelling with a constant velocity 500 m/s in a straight line. After 10s, the person
starts applying brake and the car stops after 20 s with uniform retardation
a. Draw the velocity-time graph for the motion of the car
b. Find the magnitude of retardation.
c. Calculate the distance covered by the car before it stops.

21. A ball is thrown straight up.


a. Obtain a mathematical expression for the height to which it travels.
b. Draw a velocity time graph showing it's velocity up and down.
c. What is its velocity and acceleration at the top?

22. The physical quantity that has magnitude, direction and also obeys the laws of vector
addition are vectors.
a. What is a unit vector?
b. State and explain triangle law of vector addition
c. If the magnitude of two vectors and their resultant are the same, what is the angle
between the vectors?
23. A body A of mass m is thrown at an angle of 30o to the horizontal and another body B of
the same mass is thrown with velocity at an angle of 60o to the horizontal. Find the ratio
of the horizontal range and maximum height of A and B.

b. Calculate the time taken by the object to reach the highest point. (2)

26. A stone falls freely under gravity. It covers distances h1, h2 and h3 in the first 5 seconds,
the next 5 seconds and the next 5 seconds respectively.
a. The ratio h1 : h2 : h3 is? (2)
b. Derive the equation to find the time taken by the stone to reach the ground. (2)
c. If the stone is dropped from a height 0.5 km, find the time taken to reach the
ground. (1)

27. A ball is being rotated in a circle of radius 5 m with constant tangential velocity of 20
m/s. A stone is also being rotated in a circle of radius 4 m with a constant tangential
velocity of 16 m/s.
a. Write the mathematical expression showing the relation between linear velocity
and angular velocity. (1)
b. What are the angular velocities of the ball and the stone? Which has greater
angular velocity? (2+0.5)
c. Write down the mathematical expression to find centripetal acceleration (0.5)
