Answer the following questions:
I) What are the different methods of Communication?
Ans. There are three basic methods of Communication:
1. Verbal 2. Non Verbal 3. Visual
II) What do you mean by verbal communication? Explain its types.
Ans. Verbal Communication: Verbal communication involves the use of words in delivering the intended
message. Words are the most accurate and powerful tools to express and share ideas.
There are two types of verbal communication:
a) Oral Communication : The process of expressing information or ideas through spoken
words is known as oral communication. Following are the
b) Written Communication: it involves sending message in the form of written words to convey
information. Written communication is the most formal form of communication. Examples are:
letters, reports, resumes, brochures, memorandums, circulars, contract, and notices. Etc.

III) What are the factors that determine the effectiveness of oral communication?
Ans. factors determine the effectiveness of an oral communication are:
Pace
Clarity in Pronunciation
Volume / Pitch
Choice of words
Fluency
Length of communication

IV) What are the advantages and disadvantages of oral communication?


Ans. Advantages of Oral Communication:
- It is cost efficient
- It is interpersonal and helps in building relationship
- It provide prompt feedback
- It is preferred mode for private and confidential mattes

Disadvantages of Oral Communication:


- Emotions are invisible hence lead to miscommunication
- It has no legal validity
- It does not provide a permanent record and can be easily forgotten
- Difficult to understand for certain people
- Not suitable for lengthy message.
V) What are the advantages and disadvantages of written communication?
Ans. Advantages of Written Communication:
- It allows sender to thoughtfully draft clear and comprehensive message.
- Written content has legal validity
- It is a suitable mode for communication for lengthy message
Disadvantages of Written Communication:
- It requires time for drafting the message.
- It may involve postage cost
- It causes feedback and consequently delays in decision making.
VI) What do you mean by non-verbal communication?
Ans. 1.Non Verbal Communication: Non Verbal communication means communicating without the
use of words, oral or written. It can be effectively used to enhance our verbal communication. It
includes our body languages, gestures, facial expressions, eye contact, pointing fingers etc.
VII) What are the Different elements of non-verbal communication?
Ans. Different elements of non-verbal communication:
- Facial Expression
- Gesture
- Voice
- Body language
- Eye gaze
- Physical contact
- Dress and appearance
VIII) What are the advantages and disadvantages of non-verbal communication?
Ans. Advantages:
- It complements a verbal message.
- Physical gesture greatly help handicapped people, especially deaf people.
Disadvantages:
- It is difficult to analyze a nonverbal message, hence possibility of miscommunication
- Here long conversations and explanations are not possible.
IX) What do you mean by visual communication?
Ans. 1.Visual Communication: Any verbal or non-verbal communication utilizing the sense of sight is
known as visual communication. It involves the judicious use of visual aids to make a penetrative
and lasting impact on a receiver’s mind. Graphs, charts, maps, presentation, overhead projector,
smart board, white and black boards, models, paper handouts etc. are the different types of visual
aids that help in conveying a message effectively.
X) What are the advantages of visual communication?
Ans. Advantages of visual communication are:
- Visual aids like graphs, diagrams, models etc. make communication more meaningful.
- Use of visual aids makes complex data easy to comprehend
- Visual aids make the communication more interesting
Disadvantages:
- Some of the aids used in visual communication are costly
- Sometimes visual presentation of information becomes complex.
- Sometimes visual techniques take mush time to communicate.

Ans. 7 C’s of Communication
There are seven elements of communication which are popularly known as 7 C’s of communication.
they are regarded as checklist that helps to improve the professional communication skills and increase
the chances that message would be understood in exactly same way as it was intended.
2. What are the elements of 7C’s of communication?
Ans. Elements of 7C’s of communication are:

3. Why writing skill is important for effective communication?


Ans. To communicate well, we must have good command over the language in which we are
communicating. Writing skill will help you to deliver your message exactly in the way as you wish.

4. What do you mean by phrases? What are the different types of phrases?
Ans. Phrases : a group of words that form a unit within a sentence but is incomplete independently. A
phrase lacks both the subject and the object.
e.g. The girl in the brown hat looked confused.

Types of phrases:
a) Noun phrase : it acts like a noun in a sentence.
b) Verb phrase : is a group of main verbs and helping verbs within a sentence..
c) Adjective phrase: is built around an adjective and consists of adjective and /or articles.
d) Adverbial phrase: is built around an adverb by adding words before or after it.
e) Prepositional phrase: always begins with a preposition and followed by a noun.

5. What do you mean by sentences? What are the kinds of sentences are:
Ans. Sentences: a group of word that makes complete sense is called a sentence. A sentence must contain a
subject and a predicate.

Kinds of sentences:
a) Assertive or declarative (statement)
b) Imperative ( command)
c) Interrogative(question)
d) Exclamatory (exclamation)

6. What are the parts of sentences?


Ans. Parts of sentences:
Every complete sentence contains two parts: a subject and a predicate

7. What are the rules for writing a sentence?


Ans. Rules for writing a sentence:
- Use short sentence
- Limit sentence content
- Economize on words
- Arrange the sentences in a proper sequence
- Design sentences to emphasize the topic

8. What are the parts of speech?


Ans. Parts of speech: there are 8 parts of speech.
- Noun
- Pronoun
- Verb
- Adverb
- Adjective
- Preposition

- Interjection

9. What do you mean by articles? What are the different types of article?
Ans. Articles : an article is a word used to modify a noun. There are two types:
- Indefinite article : a and an : it is used before singular countable noun which is not the specific one.
- Definite article(the): it can be used with both countable nouns singular as well as plural and
uncountable nouns for specific known noun.

10. What are the key factors for writing a good paragraph?
Ans. Key factors for writing a good paragraph
- Topic of the paragraph
