During Week 3, I engaged with sections 7-Sunflower and 7-Camia through quizzes and lessons on integer operations, noting some students' struggles with addition and subtraction. I also took over a different class unexpectedly, which enhanced my adaptability and classroom management skills. This week emphasized the need for flexibility in teaching and the importance of continuous practice for students to grasp mathematical concepts.

Silverio Week 3 Narrative Report

BSED Mathematics 4-A

This week, I had the opportunity to engage with my assigned sections, 7-

Sunflower and 7-Camia, through various teaching and assessment activities. On
Tuesday, I administered a quiz covering multiplication and division of integers to assess
their understanding of the previous lessons. The following day, I introduced the proper
order of operations with integers, emphasizing the importance of following the correct
sequence when solving mathematical expressions using the PEMDAS/BODMAS rule.
On Thursday, I gave them an activity to apply what they had learned. While monitoring
their progress, I noticed that some students still struggled with distinguishing addition
and subtraction, which indicated the need for further reinforcement and practice.
Aside from my usual responsibilities, I was also given the opportunity to handle a
different section. One of the math teachers had an emergency, and my cooperating
teacher, Ma’am Vivian, assigned me to take over one of her classes, 7-Cherry Blossom,
to help fill the schedule. This unexpected responsibility allowed me to practice
adaptability and classroom management in a different setting. Meanwhile, the Special
Program in Foreign Language (SPFL) students have been excused from their regular
classes for three weeks to prepare for an upcoming event related to Mandarin. To
ensure they stay on track with their lessons, my cooperating teacher is planning to
provide them with materials and activities to work on at home.
During my free time, I usually lend a hand to my cooperating teacher, assisting
her with various tasks such as checking papers, organizing materials, and recording
scores. Once I have completed my tasks, I ask for permission to go to the Math Room,
the designated space for math teachers and practice teachers. This room serves as a
place for me and my peers to catch up, discuss our teaching experiences, and support
one another. It is also where we work on our pending tasks, such as checking papers,
recording scores, and completing our requirements. Additionally, I sometimes
accompany my co-pre-service teachers to their classes, allowing me to observe
different teaching styles and classroom dynamics. This experience helps me gain more
insights into various approaches to teaching and handling students.
Friday marks the release of report cards, an important event for both students
and teachers, as it provides a formal assessment of student progress. This week has
reinforced my understanding of the importance of flexibility in teaching and the need to
adjust my approach based on students' learning needs. I also realized that some
mathematical concepts, such as integer operations, require continuous practice and
varied teaching strategies to help students fully grasp them. Moving forward, I aim to
explore more engaging and effective ways to address these learning challenges while
continuing to develop my teaching skills.
