Sharing the Gospel – The Romans Road

The “Romans Road” lays out God’s plan of salvation through a series of Bible verses from the book of Romans.
When arranged in order, these verses form an easy, systematic way of explaining the message of salvation.
The Romans Road clearly defines: (1) who needs salvation; (2) why we need salvation; (3) how God provides
salvation; (4) how we receive salvation; (5) the results of salvation.

Romans Road to Salvation

• Everyone needs salvation because we have all sinned.
o Romans 3:10---12, 23 “…as it is written: “None is righteous, no, not one; no one understands;
no one seeks for God. All have turned aside; together they have become worthless; no one
does good, not even one.” “…for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”
• The price (or consequence) of sin is death.
o Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in
Christ Jesus our Lord.”
• Jesus Christ died for our sins. He paid the price for our sin.
o Romans 5:8 “…but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for
us.”
• We receive salvation and eternal life through faith in Jesus Christ.
o Romans 10:9---10, 13 “…because, if you confess with your mouth that Je sus is Lord and
believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the
heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.” “ For
everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
• Salvation through Jesus brings us into a relationship of peace with God.
o Romans 5:1 “Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God
through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
o Romans 8:1 “There is therefore now no condemnation for those who ar e in Christ Jesus.” o
Romans 8:38---39 “For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things
present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all
creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Personally responding to the Romans Road:

1. Admit you are a sinner.
2. Understand that as a sinner, you deserve death.
3. Believe Jesus Christ died on the cross to save you from sin and death.
4. Repent by turning from your old life of sin to a new life in Christ.
5. Receive, through faith in Jesus Christ, his free gift of salvation.
Sharing the Gospel – The Bridge Illustration
The “Bridge Illustration” is a diagram that shows how our sin has separated us from God, but how Jesus
Christ bridges that gap through his sacrificial death on the cross. It is a great visual reminder of our
need for God and how He meets that need through His Son.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This first illustration starts with the fact that God is holy (exalted
or worthy of complete devotion as one perfect in goodness and
righteousness) and that our sin has separated us from God.

• Romans 6:23 “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory
of God.”
• Isaiah 53:6 “All we like sheep have gone astray, we have turned—every one—to his
own way…”
This is especially bad news because there is no way for us to get across that gap on our
own. We can try to find ways back to God – such as doing good works or being religious –
but the penalty for our sin still leads to death and judgment.

• Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in
Christ Jesus our Lord.”
• Hebrews 9:27 “And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that
comes judgment…”

The good news is that God provided a way for us to bridge the gap –
through Jesus Christ and His sacrificial death on the cross. Jesus
took the penalty for our sin so that through faith in Him we could
have peace with God.

• Romans 5:8 “but God shows his love for us in that while
we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
• John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave
his only Son, that whoever believes in him should
not perish but have eternal life.”
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now the question becomes, “what is our response?” By recognizing

that we are sinners in need of a Savior and that Jesus is the only
way to become right with God, we can choose to accept the free gift
of salvation and eternal life offered through Jesus Christ.

• John 5:24 “Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word

and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not
come into judgment but has passed from death to life.”
• John 1:24 “But to all who did receive him, who believed in
his name, he gave the right to become children of God.”
