20 FALLACIES WITH THERE EXAMPLE
1. SLIPPERY SLOP FALLACY
If we let our friend skip the cleaning schedule of our dorm, soon no one will not be willing to clean on their turn and the dorm will become a total mess 2. APPEAL TO FORCE FALLACY We have created group for logic assignment, if u do not participate in the group, I will not include your name on the group list. 3. APPEAL TO PITY FALLACY I know the assignment was due yesterday, but I lost my phone and felt completely overwhelmed and helpless without it. I couldn’t access materials or stay on track, and it’s been so stressful. It wouldn't be fair to expect me to finish on the same deadline. 4. FALSE CAUSE FALLACY I’ve noticed that every time I sleep with my socks on, I wake up with a headache. Therefore, I’m convinced that sleeping with one’s socks on causes a headache. 5. SUPPRESSED EVIDENCE FALLACY Savory breakfast provides the best food around the campus. You should use your food cost sharing money to eat there. (Suppressed the evidence that the money if your cost sharing won't afford eating there 6. STRAWMAN FALLACY We should try to save more money instead of spending it on unnecessary things every day. My friend argues, "You are saying we should never buy anything at all? Sometimes our cafe food can be uncomfortable so we have to eat out side and we have to buy some learning material. Thus your idea does not work." 7. MISSING THE POINT FALLACY Attending lectures shouldn’t be mandatory because good grades prove I have already mastered the material. Forcing me to attend is pointless if I am achieving good results. (The conclusion ignores the purpose of attendance which is not just grades, but also for socialization, and creating community.) 8. FALSE DICHOTOMY FALLACY Either you help me on the exam, or I will fail and have to repeat the year. I know you don’t want me to waste another year of my life, so you have to help me! 9. RED HERRING Learning history as a freshman course is important to know about our identity. However, since there have been many wars, conflicts, droughts, and famines, it is important to ask for foreign aid. 10.COMPOSITION FALLACY The chess club in this campus is part of the student club system, and it is disorganized. Therefore, the entire student club system must also be disorganized 11.BEGGING THE QUESTION I should study business because business is the best field for me. Therefore, studying business is the best choice for me. 12.WEAK ANALOGY FALLACY Afternoon lectures are similar to watching a movie again and again. Both are boring and feel lengthy. Therefore both are unnecessarily. 13.ARGUMENT AGAINST THE PERSON My friend argued that affirmative action is important policy and she advocates about it, but she only supports affirmative action because she is a woman and women benefit from such policies. 14.APPEAL TO PEOPLE Everyone in the dorm stays up all night playing video games, so I should do it too. 15.APPEAL TO IGNORANCE My dorm mate said there is no conclusive evidence to support the claim that Moses parted the red sea, so the claim must be false. 16.COMPLEX QUESTION FALLACY Why does every argument you hear after studying fallacy seems like fallacy? (it is assuming that every argument you hear after studying fallacy seems like fallacy, but asking the reason. ) 17.AMPHIBOLY My classmate mentioned that she saw our professor with a glass early this morning; therefore, he must have been drinking something from it before entering the class. 18.HASTY GENERALIZATION My dorm mates are a medical student and they study the whole night. Sefereselam campus students are medical students. Therefore all Sefereselam students study all night. 19.EQUIVOCATION Mr. We can't have an exam on Saturday, because we have a lab ( laboratory, a place where science investigations are made ). Instructor: Yes, you're right. All humans live by their lab (Amharic term, meaning effort), we are nothing without our lab. So the Exam can't be on Saturday.( from logic class). 20. APPEAL TO UNQUALIFIED AUTHORITY A social media influencer promotes a skincare product, stating it cures acne. (Their lack of dermatological training makes their endorsement unqualified.)
