5 Technical Specifications
1 Introduction
This document provides site-preparation information and requirements for the
Balco WaterJet cleaning unit, to ensure proper installation and operation. The
customer is responsible for preparing the installation site according to the
instructions and guidelines described in this document.
The following topics are covered in this guide:
• Physical description
• Site requirements
Important:
Since preparation of the site must be completed before the installation date, you must
submit the checklist at the end of this document to your local Stratasys representative
after carrying out the tasks described in this guide. After the checklist is reviewed, a date
will be set for installation.
3 Physical Description
The WaterJet system consists of following main components:
a. WaterJet unit (cabinet and stand)
b. stand
a b
The water pressure pump supplied with the WaterJet may differ from the water
pressure pump shown above.
The following figure shows the WaterJet unit installed on the floor.
4 Site Requirements
Ensure that the WaterJet unit is installed—
• near the printer, but at least 5 meters (16.5 feet) away from it (to avoid water
damage to the printer)
• close to an area where models can be soaked in caustic soda (sodium
hydroxide), and where they can dry after WaterJet treatment
Important:
The pressure of the water supplied to the water pressure pump after the filter must never
drop below 1 bar.
Lower water pressure may cause the pump to overheat and fail.
4.2 Drain
The waste water from the WaterJet unit typically empties into the building’s
drainage system. Therefore, you must prepare a suitable drain pipe near the
unit. The drain pipe should be in back of the WaterJet unit and reach 40–50
centimeters (15–19 inches) above the floor. It should have a diameter of
40 millimeters (1.5 inches).
To connect to the WaterJet waste collector to the drainage system, the customer
must provide a draining hose, metal cable ties and thread-seal tape for sealing
the hoses and their connections.
Stratasys supplies two 40 mm 90° elbows and two short drain pipes for setting
up the drain under the WaterJet cabinet.
4.3 Floor
It is recommended that the floor around the cleaning unit have a non-slip
surface.
4.4.1 Power
Important:
The voltage requirements for each WaterJet model appear on the identification label on
the rear of the WaterJet.
• Wall outlet
An electrical outlet must be available, preferably in back of the unit, to
reduce the chances of water spraying on the outlet.
The wall outlet must have (or be connected to) a residual current device
(RCD)—ground current-leakage detector—that protects from a current
leakage of more than 30 mA.
• The WaterJet is equipped with a 2 meter (6 feet) power cable. The customer
must provide a suitable power plug.
4.4.3 Ground
The cleaning unit is grounded through the AC plug. Make sure that the wall
outlet is grounded in accordance with local electrical codes.
