I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:
Evaluated function;
III. PROCEDURE
3. Checking of Attendance
Is there any absent for today?
None sir.
Very good, maintain that perfect
attendance.
4. Review
In order to refresh your memory from our
past lesson, let us have an activity, entitled
Pick a Chocolate. Listen to the mechanics.
Questions:
1. What is the relation where each element
in the domain is related to only one value 1. It is a function sir
in the range by some rule?
5. ENGAGE
Now, let us have an activity called “Function
Machine “. The class will be divided into
three groups. Each group will be given
materials needed in this activity ( cartolina
paper, marker and tape)
Questions:
1. If 7 goes into the machine, what number
comes out?
1. 2(7)+5=19
2. If 13 goes into the machine, what
number comes out?
2. 2(13)+5= 31
3. If -4 goes into the machine, what number
comes out?
3. 2(-4×2+5= -3
4. If x goes into the machine, what comes
out?
4. 2(x) +5= 2x+5
5. If 2x goes into the machine, what comes
out?
5. 2(2x)+5= 4x+5
For those who got the highest score will be
the winner and select a representative to
claim the price and for those who got wrong
tap your shoulder and say, do much better
next time.
B. DEVELOPMENTAL ACTIVITY
1. PRESENTATION
What have you observed from the function
We substitute the given input to the
machine activity?
variable x to determine the output.
Great idea. The activity earlier has something to
do with our lesson for today which is Evaluating
Functions.
2. EXPLAIN
Evaluating a function means replacing
Think the function as a function machine, the variable in the function, in this case x,
evaluating a function is analogous to providing with a value from the function’s domain
our machine a valid input. For clearer and computing for the result. To denote
understanding here is the definition of that we are evaluating f at x for some x in
evaluating a function. the domain of f, we write f(x).
y=
y= 2.5
2. f(x)=2x²-3x+1
f(6)=2
f(6)=2(36)-18+1
2. f(6) f(6)=72-18+1
f(6)=55
Kindly solve this on the board.
None sir
3. EXPLORE
By substitute sir.
Correct. How can we evaluate a function given
the value of x?
I developed the value of cooperation sir.
Exactly. What values have you develop during
the discussion and activity? None sir.
IV. EVALUATION
Since you now have a full knowledge of our lesson, kindly get your ball pen and 1 whole
sheet of paper for a short quiz.
a. f(0)
b. f(1)
c. f(5)
a. f(3)
b. f(4)
c. f(12
1. The US Bureau of the Census predicts that the population of Florida will be about
17.4 million in 2010 and then will increase by about 0.22 million per year until 2025.
This is expressed as f(x) =0.22x+17.4 where x is the number of years since 2010.
Find the population of Florida in the next 8 years.
V. ASSIGNMENT
Direction: Copy the following. On a one-half crosswise, answer the given problem.
1. The math club goes to an amusement park. Student tickets cost $10 each.
Teachers go for free. The bus costs $28. This is expressed as f(x) =10x+28. How
much is the cost of 12 students going in the amusement park?
2. Renting a canoe cost $10 plus $28 per day, which is expressed as f(x) =28x+10.
What is the total renting cost of canoe in 3 days?
