CHAPTER NO: 01

INTRODUCTION

Industrial training it is an activity that is intended to integrate all the domain of

learn about construction of building. The purpose of training to develope the ability to
work to get knowledge about construction of industries.

There are various types of equipment and machines are used for working on site.
Use of modern equipment and machine to fast the working speed and speedly
construction.

The name of the industry is Ekta construction. The branches of these industry is
worked at different places. The one branch of these industry is worked at Manchar.
The proposed auditorium of building is work out. In these construction there are one
supervisor and 25 labour are worked.

Industry training is important because such training can expose students to the
real working environment. It also can add and expand technical knowledge and skills
of the student, if the student has previously acquired knowledge is limited, but when
students attend this training, students can find out more about things, and when
something will work. In addition, students can learn about the latest technology or
skills in Training Industry.

CHAPTER NO: 03
TYPES OF MAJOR EQUIPMENT

1. Excavator:

Excavators (hydraulic) are heavy construction equipment consisting of a boom,

dipper (or stick), bucket and cab on a rotating platform known as the "house".
The house sits atop an undercarriage with tracks or wheels. They are a natural
progression from the steam shovels and often mistakenly called power shovels.
All movement and functions of a hydraulic excavator are accomplished through
the use of hydraulic fluid, with hydraulic cylinders and hydraulic motors. Due to
the linear actuation of hydraulic cylinders, their mode of operation is
fundamentally different from cable-operated excavators which use winches and
steel ropes to accomplish the movements.

2. Transit mixer

A concrete mixer (also cement mixer) is a device that homogeneously combines

cement, aggregate (e.g. sand or gravel), and water to form concrete. A typical
concrete mixer uses a revolving drum to mix the components. For smaller
volume works, portable concrete mixers are often used so that the concrete can
be made at the construction site, giving the workers ample time to use the
concrete before it hardens. An alternative to a machine is mixing concrete by
hand. This is usually done in a wheelbarrow; however, several companies have
recently begun to sell modified tarps for this purpose.

fig: 3.2 Transit mixer

10
3. Bar bending machine

Rebar bending machines are usually used for the accuracy of bending angles.
Suitable for bending various rebars used in construction, TMT, rebars, etc., it
can bend the toughest rebar and has a wide range of uses. This machine is
suitable for construction companies and companies to work on rebar according
to their needs.

It comprises a long steel shaft that must be bent before it can be used in
construction. Various types of bending machines are used in the construction
industry to bend rebar. All bending machines differ in design, construction,
strength, technology, and application. More than just bending steel bars,
different machines offer unique features and capabilities based on the tasks they
perform. It can be used in the railway industry, such as scaffolding safety hooks,
ceiling hooks, concrete, and railway clamps.

11
4. Power trowel

A power trowel (also known as a "power float" and "troweling machine") is a

piece of light construction equipment used by construction companies and
contractors to apply a smooth finish to concrete slabs and PCC etc..,

fig: 3.4 Power trowel

12
5. Concrete vibrator
The more air bubbles you have in your concrete, the weaker its structural
integrity when it hardens. A concrete vibrator is a concrete tool that produces
stronger concrete by vigorously shaking the concrete right after you pour it
to eliminate the air bubbles or air pockets

fig: 3.5 Concrete vibrator

13
6. Concrete pump

A concrete pump is a construction tool that helps you transfer freshly mixed
concrete to the worksite when and where it's needed. Concrete pumps work
by utilizing a valve system and hydraulics. There are two primary types of
concrete pumps — line pumps and boom pumps

CHAPTER NO: 06
TESTING OF RAW MATERIAL

The materials used for constructing the structure are as follows:

• Cement
• Sand
• Aggregate
• Bricks
• Concrete

And also many more materials are used on site.

This all the materials are tested before it used on site It is helpful to ensure the
products are fit for purpose or not.

Field Test on cement carried out on construction site are follows:

• Date of Manufacturing: As the strength of cement reduces with age, the

date of manufacturing of cement bags should be checked.
• Cement Color: The color of cement should be uniform. It should be
typical cement color i.e. gray color with a light greenish shade.
• Whether Hard Lumps are Formed: Cement should be free from hard
lumps. Such lumps are formed by the absorption of moisture from the
atmosphere. Temperature Inside Cement Bag: If the hand is plunged into
a bag of cement, it should be cool inside the cement bag. If hydration
reaction takes place inside the bag, it will become warm.
• Smoothness Test: When cement is touched or rubbed in between fingers,
it should give a smooth feeling If it felt rough, it indicates adulteration
with sand
• Water Sinking Test: If a small quantity of cement is thrown into the
water, it should float some time before finally sinking.
• The smell of Cement Paste: A thin paste of cement with water should
feel sticky between the fingers. If the cement contains too much-pounded
clay and silt as an adulterant, the paste will give an earthy smell

22
The slump cone test are carried out on concrete:

Folllowing are the equipments are used to carry out the slump cone test:

Slump cone, non-porous base plate, measuring scale, temping rod. The
mold for the test is in the form of the frustum of a cone having height 30 cm,
bottom diameter 20 cm and top diameter 10 cm. The tamping rod is of steel 16
mm diameter and 60cm long and rounded at one end.
Procedure:

1. Clean the internal surface of the mould and apply oil.

2. Place the mould on a smooth horizontal non- porous base plate.
3. Fill the mould with the prepared concrete mix in 4 approximately equal
layers.
4. Tamp each layer with 25 strokes of the rounded end of the tamping rod in a
uniform manner over the cross section of the mould. For the subsequent layers,
the tamping should penetrate into the underlying layer.
5. Remove the excess concrete and level the surface with a trowel.
6. Clean away the mortar or water leaked out between the mould and the base
plate.
7. Raise the mould from the concrete immediately and slowly in vertical
direction.
8. Measure the slump as the difference between the height of the mould and that
of height point of the specimen being tested.

23
CHAPTER NO: 07
PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENTS

Personal protective equipments (PPE) is meant for the protection of the

most parts of human body every industry has design it own PPE as per it's
requirement and experience of numarable accidences. These PPE have now
being made mandatory by law to be use on construction site by not only the
worker but by all those who visit them.

Workers need to be educated, instructed, and disciplined to use PPE

whenever required. PPE's are designed as per requirement of that particular
industry and such should provide absulte and full protection against all possible
hazards. The design and material use should be able to bear the brunt of the
likely hazard. The PPE should invoke confidence in the worker and his
movements should not be affected.

Most commonly used PPE,s in the construction industry

1) Head Protection:
Head gear is provided to protect the head from falling objectives and likelihood
of the head bumping against any protruding object.
Head gear consists of helmets, caps, and hairnets. Hairnets are used by those
who have long hair that is likely to get entangled in moving parts of any
equipment. Helmets are of two types: Full brimmed and brimles.

2) Eye Protection:
Along with the head the eyes need to also be protected from dust, metal
particles and harmful radiation, fine welding particles, etc. The various types of
eye protection are goggles, spectacles, and clip-on.

3) Nose Protection:
Protection needs to be provided ti the nose from dust, vapour, gas and in oxygen
deficient environment. Protection to nose can be provided by full or half gas
masks.
4) Hands and feet Protection:
Maximum injuries occurs to the hand and feet as workmen have to handle blunt
material, work with sharp ends and not material.
Construction sites are plagued with objects that could cause grave injuries and
hence the feet need to be adequately protected.
The hand and feet are subject to abrasion, cuts, chemical infection, and skin
infection and hence needs to be protected by wearing gloves and gum boots.

24
The gloves are made of synthetic or natural rubber. Special care needs to be
taken while handling concrete as it may go into the sleeves of the gloves and get
hardened.

5) Ear Protection:
Construction site is full of loud noises which may not only damage the ears but
also have a psychological effects on his ability to work.
Hence ear protection is needed and is sometimes a part of the helmet gear. The
other types of ear protections are plug and cup type.

6) Body Protection:
Safety belts and harnesses are needed by those who are working at heights and
may fall down leading to grave injury or death.
Safety belts and har limit be movement of the worker and prevent him from
falling down. Unlike safety belts harnesses distribute the impact of fall over a
wider body area there by reducing the possibility of injury.
Full body suits are worn in temperature extremes, adverse weather conditions,
chemical or metal splash, impact or penetration, dust allergy, etc.

PRACTICAL EXPRIENCES IN INDUSTRY

Practical work or the practical experience is the main part of civil

engineering. It is very important from give more knowledge and jobs point of
view. Any project work is not a research, but an experiences of doing some
works by students on their own it helps to more develop the knowledge.

In the summer vacation training, I have visit the site with my group
members. At this site, the construction of Praposed auditorioum work can be
started. By day to day visit, I have observed many more things which required
practically done on site. First of all, I have observed how to done the site
clearance with the help of machine like JCB. Then, the excavation marking can
be mark on site and then excavation can be started on site with the help of JCB.
Then construction of PCC bed can be practically observed. Then RCC column
or mesh of PCC can be placed on the PCC bed. Then column are filled with
Concrete. Raft Footing can be constructed. Then the work of plinth beam, plinth
filling, construction of brick masonry can be observed on site.

At the construction site this all the experience of the works helps to
develope a more knowledge.

26
CHAPTER NO: 09
SHORT REPORT OF THE PROJECT

The training on construction site, can be done in period of 6th june to

13th July. All this activities which can be done on site, is mention in this report
with the some practical photos. The works from I have joined the construction
can be mention in the project. All the construction of structures are mentioned
step wise are as follows:

Site clearance

Earthwork excavation in foundation

PCC bed in foundation

Shabadi flat tiles water proofing

RCC in footing

Plinth beam

Plinth filling

Column

This all the works are observed on site and mentioned in the report

27
CHAPTER NO: 10

CHALLENGING EXPRIENCES ENCOUNTERED DURING TRAINING

Training involves a lot of works faced on construction site. At the time

of construction of this structure faced many difficulties for their labours. After
some construction of this structure, the labours were shifted to the another
project work. Therefore, the construction of first site can be stop upto the one
week.

After this work can completed, then again the labours shifted to first site
project and started the construction. Then the construction of this site can be
covered in one week of extra working hours.

Practical knowledge of any works is very important. This training gives

a more practical knowledge and it is very to in our career.

28
CONCLUSION

The internship is a bridge between the theoretical knowledge and the

practical or the reality work at the field of construction or civil engineering
work. We all who take the internship class go to companies that already
working either as a consultant or a contractor. The responsibilities of the hosting
company are to teach student and shape them in the six week as a real site
workers. My hosting company is a consultant tearn and they help me who took
the internship session in this company in acquiring different knowledge in
different positions.
Since I took my internship session in the consulting side Paradise
Constrction Pvt.Ltd at otur. I get an opportunity to work in the different party of
the construction work which helps me to gain more knowledge by seeing what
they work in their own office and what is their main responsibilities to the client
and also each other.
The consultant team by its nature includes designer team including
structural engineers, architects, sanitary, electrical and mechanical engineers,
the contract administration and supervision team includes site coordinators,
supervisors and quantity workers and the financial office. This helps me to get
more knowledge than the contractors.
The construction industry is typically divided into specialty areas, with
each area requiring different skills, resources, and knowledge to participate
effectively in it. In order to integrate and work closely in each section it is a
challenging task to one person especially when he is fresh or beginner. In fact,
some challenges may be solved by me but some are above my limit and even
the workers at the site also. In general I have faced the following challenges in
the internship period.

• Communication problem with workers in the office and at the site.

• Weather condition of the site.

• Shortage of knowledge in some portion of the work at the site.

• Unsatisfactory answers for questions from engineers.
