operates and manufactures its products, showcasing the entire production process, the
machinery involved, and the importance of maintaining quality standards.
The factory, situated in the industrial area of Ambernath, serves as a key production hub for
one of India’s most well-established food brands. During our visit, we gained a deeper
understanding of the company’s history, its operational strategies, and how they ensure quality
control and innovation in their products.
Bunty Foods, much like Parle, operates with a focus on meeting the growing consumer demand
for high-quality food products, with a strong emphasis on taste, hygiene, and nutrition. The
company’s vision is to create affordable and high-quality snacks for the masses, ensuring that
their products reach households across India and beyond.

2. History of the Industry (Parle Factory)

Parle Products was founded in 1929 by the Chauhan family in Mumbai, India. The name
"Parle" is derived from the region where the company was initially set up. The brand quickly
rose to prominence due to its consistent quality, and it remains a household name in India for
biscuits, snacks, and other confectionery items.
The company began by producing traditional sweets and snacks but soon made a strategic shift
towards mass-producing biscuits. Parle G, one of the company’s most iconic products, became
a staple snack for people of all ages. Over time, Parle Products expanded its portfolio to include
various other biscuit varieties, such as Krackjack, Treat, and Monaco, as well as confectioneries
like chocolates and candies.
Parle’s success is built on its commitment to innovation, quality, and affordability. The
company uses cutting-edge technology in manufacturing, ensuring that it remains one of the
largest and most trusted food brands in India.

A. Factory Overview and Video Presentation
Upon arrival at the Bunty Foods Pvt. Ltd. facility, we were greeted by the coordinator, who
gave a comprehensive introduction to the company. We were then shown a 20-minute video,
which provided insights into:
• History of Parle: The origins, growth, and milestones of Parle Products.
• Products: The wide range of food products manufactured, with a special focus on biscuits.
• Testing and Quality Control: How raw materials undergo strict testing and how quality is
maintained throughout the production process.
• Daily Production: The massive scale of production, including details about the daily
output of biscuits and other products.
B. Tour of the Factory
We were taken on a guided tour of the factory, where we were introduced to various machines
used in biscuit production. Some of the key machines and processes explained were:
• Dough Mixers: These machines are used to mix the ingredients, ensuring that the dough
consistency is perfect for biscuit production.
• Rolling Machines: The dough is rolled into thin sheets, which are then cut into the desired
shapes for biscuits.
• Ovens: Large, automated ovens are used to bake the biscuits at precise temperatures,
ensuring consistency and texture.
• Cooling Systems: After baking, biscuits are cooled in controlled environments to avoid
moisture retention and ensure crispiness. Packaging Machines: Finally, the biscuits are
packaged using automated systems, ensuring hygienic and efficient packaging.
C. Quality Control and Testing
One of the most impressive aspects of the factory was its strict quality control measures. We
learned about how the raw materials (flour, sugar, etc.) are tested for purity and quality before
being used in the production process. Additionally, various checks are carried out at each stage
of production to ensure that only the best products reach the market. The factory is equipped
with a dedicated quality control team that regularly tests the products for taste, texture, and
shelf-life.

D. Marketing and Distribution

The marketing strategies employed by Bunty Foods and Parle Products were also discussed
during the visit. The company employs a mix of traditional advertising methods, including
television commercials and print media, as well as digital marketing to reach a broader
audience. Distribution is another strong point, with the products available in almost every retail
outlet, from small kirana shops to large supermarkets.
4. Revenue Comparison: Growth of Parle Over Time
Parle’s Revenue Growth:
• Initial Phase (1929–1940s): In its early years, Parle generated limited revenue, primarily
focused on local markets and producing sweets. The revenue at the time was estimated at
₹1–2 lakh annually.
• Expansion Phase (1950s–1980s): With the launch of Parle G and other biscuits, Parle’s
revenue saw significant growth. By the 1980s, the company was generating approximately
₹50–100 crore annually.
• Global Recognition Phase (1990s–2020s): Parle’s revenue increased exponentially with
globalization and expanding product lines. By 2020, Parle’s annual revenue was reported
to be around ₹14,500 crore.
Estimated Losses and Profits:
• Profit Margins: Parle has maintained an average profit margin of 10–15% annually over
the years due to efficient cost management and economies of scale.
• Loss Factors: Occasional losses occurred due to fluctuating raw material costs, economic
slowdowns, and competition from brands like Britannia and ITC.

E. Conclusion
The visit to Bunty Foods Pvt. Ltd. was an enriching experience, offering valuable insights into
the biscuit manufacturing process. We gained a clear understanding of the journey from raw
material testing to packaging, while also witnessing the company's commitment to quality
