Essay
COVID 19 has had a profound impact on psychological, emotional, and mental health

psychodynamic for most, if not all, of us. We watched with horror, sadness, and grief. We felt

pain, anger, disbelief: Our country has hit rock bottom, once-in-lifetime bottom. The likes we

shall never see, hear or feel again.

The mental health crisis that has emerged from this devastating pandemic will be with us

for many years to come. Dislocated for once in 37 years employed; This was a gut check, the gut

check, you get when a spinning soccer ball hits your gut, like a ton of bricks and knocks you out,

and then for extra humiliation, a group of people standing over you; “ Are you Ok.” Not once hit

but twice in a five-month beginning pandemic time frame.

Observant, reflective, upon my lack of faith and enthusiasm, I heard a voice, an

understanding, empathic, genuine guardian angel. She told me, “everything is going to be alright;

you’ll find a job, Donna.”With dedication, commitment, and drive I inherited; much thought and

introspective, motivated and competent, it’s life-changing to hear a soft, calm voice, empathy,

and understanding. I want to activate this strength and compassion to Wichita State University

complete. My career with M.ed Clinical Counseling to advocate, improve, inspire the lives of

others.

This mother was amazing, stay at home, raised six kids, divorced at age 35, with a

newborn baby boy, my brother, five years apart. We witnessed a strong woman asking for help

for the first time in her entire life. Embarrassed and ashamed, my siblings and I used free lunch

tickets and food stamps. She got up with a strong group support system. She had the opportunity

to obtain certification from a local trade school for an in-demand occupation, as the Wang Word

Processor just entered the market. This amazing, smart, tough Brooklyn girl inspired me. We

grew personally, spiritually and shared conversations from the latest self-help recovery book we
engaged in with her support. She encouraged my drive into counseling. To inspire others, it takes

honesty, leadership, self-reflection, and a large dose of empathy. And Wichita State University

will guide, coach, and mentor my great ambition.

A simple smile, a spoken word, a counseling theory can improve and lift one’s spirit.

Attainment of the skulls and knowledge of a sophisticated licensed counselor requires many

hours of academics and supervised training to obtain a license(LCPC), that’s where the student

(LPC’s) will be in 24 months after two state exams and supervised training for 24 months, one

could have his or her practice, manage others, and have more flexibility and money. To improve

the life of another, One must have a vision and goals. That is why Wichita State is one of the few

states that offer the three separate counseling programs and have so much community support.

Who would not like to go to this beautiful, historic campus diverse and inclusive of all races,

religions, gender, age, mental and economic misfortunes?

Like the Mother described above, Wichita State has open arms to a vast amount of

empathy, knowledge and impacts one’s identity similarities and differences we share. But we are

always engaged in motivation and actions to welcome everyone. Wichita State is one-of-it’s

kind, a step out in front of diversity and inclusion. She inspired, informed, educated, and

motivated: “ Be true” and humble always.

Let’s address the social, structural, economic hardships other one’s self. The researched

grant /research opportunities, “ Post Pandemic and its economic disparity and the Protests of the

Summer.” The facility, professors, and deans have spent a lot of time on their research, and it is

appreciated.
