TOKYO FACTS
Imperial Palace
Built on Edo Castle’s site, the Imperial
Palace is home to Japan’s Emperor.
While mostly closed to the public,
visitors can explore the East Gardens
and see Nijubashi Bridge. Twice a
year, the public can enter to see the
Imperial Family.
Meiji Shrine
Built in 1920, Meiji Shrine honors
Emperor Meiji, who modernized Japan.
Surrounded by a peaceful forest in
Shibuya, it hosts Shinto weddings and
New Year’s prayers. Destroyed in
WWII, it was rebuilt and remains a
spiritual retreat.
