Before becoming Tokyo in 1868, the city


was known as Edo and was the center
of the powerful Tokugawa shogunate
Tokyo is the most
populated city in the
world, with over 37

DESTINATIONS
HISTORIC SITES
Sensō-ji
Tokyo’s oldest temple, founded in 645
and dedicated to Kannon, the
goddess of mercy. Located in
Asakusa, it features the famous
Kaminarimon Gate and Nakamise-dori
shopping street. Rebuilt after WWII, it
remains a symbol of Tokyo’s history
and culture.

Imperial Palace
Built on Edo Castle’s site, the Imperial
Palace is home to Japan’s Emperor.
While mostly closed to the public,
visitors can explore the East Gardens
and see Nijubashi Bridge. Twice a
year, the public can enter to see the
Imperial Family.

Meiji Shrine
Built in 1920, Meiji Shrine honors
Emperor Meiji, who modernized Japan.
Surrounded by a peaceful forest in
Shibuya, it hosts Shinto weddings and
New Year’s prayers. Destroyed in
WWII, it was rebuilt and remains a
spiritual retreat.
NATURE TOURISM

Shinjuku Gyoen
A peaceful park in the heart of Tokyo
featuring Japanese, English, and
French gardens. It’s famous for cherry
blossoms in spring, vibrant autumn
leaves, and serene tea houses for a
relaxing escape from the city.

Mount Takao
A popular hiking destination just an
hour from Tokyo, offering scenic trails,
panoramic views, and Yakuoin Temple
at the summit. It’s especially beautiful
in autumn and has a cable car for
those who prefer an easier route.

Ueno Park
A historic park with museums, a zoo,
and beautiful seasonal flowers like
cherry blossoms in spring and lotus in
summer. It’s a favorite spot for hanami
(cherry blossom viewing) and cultural
experiences in central Tokyo.

Sushi
Tokyo is the birthplace of Edo-style
sushi, featuring fresh, high-quality
seafood like tuna, uni (sea urchin), and

Lightly battered and deep-fried seafood
and vegetables, tempura in Tokyo is
crispy and delicate, best enjoyed at
specialty restaurants with dipping sauce
and grated daikon radish

Ramen
Tokyo-style ramen has a soy sauce-
based broth with thin, curly noodles,
often topped with chashu (pork), nori
(seaweed), and green onions, with
famous ramen shops found all over
the city
