February 3, 2025

Content Standard: The learners demonstrate an understanding of: ICT in the context of global
communication for specific professional track.
Performance Standard: The learners shall be able to: at the end of the 2-week period
independently compose an insightful reflection paper on the nature of ICT in the context of their
lives, society, and professional tracks (Arts, TechVoc, Sports, Academic)
Learning Competency: Uses common productivity tools effectively by maximizing advanced
application techniques
I.OBJECTIVES
a. Discuss the basic functions used in Microsoft excel; and
b. Distinguish the basic functions used in Microsoft excel
II. SUBJECT MATTER

A. Topic: Analyzing Data Using Microsoft Excel using pre-defined formulas

B. References: Self Learning Modules
C. Materials: Laptop, SLM

III. PROCEDURE

1. Preliminary Activities
A. Greetings
B. Checking of Attendance
C. Setting of Classroom Standards
D. Review
1. What are some effective strategies to refine an online search when too many
unrelated results appear?
2. How can you identify and avoid misinformation or fake news when conducting
research online?

2.Motivation

The teacher will present a set of images on the board containing the different images of Microsoft
office application and the teacher will ask the students on which Microsoft application is sometimes
called as ‘spreadsheet’.
3. Lesson Proper

Activity: The class will be grouped into 3. Each group has to write the tools they used in using excel
application.

Topics for Discussion:

Analyzing Data Using Microsoft Excel using pre-defined formulas

1. Common Pre-Defined Formulas in Excel

2. Using Excel Formulas for Data Analysis
3. Practical Applications of Excel Formulas

Analysis

The teacher will ask the following questions:

1. Your dataset contains a list of employees and their salaries. How can you use IF and
AVERAGE functions together to find employees earning above the average salary?
2. How can you ensure that your research adheres to ethical standards, especially when
using online sources?

Abstraction:
The teacher will ask the following questions:

1. How do pre-defined formulas in Excel simplify the process of data analysis compared to
manual calculations?
2. In what ways can Excel’s SUM, AVERAGE, and COUNT functions abstract complex
calculations for large datasets?

Application:

Students will distinguish and apply basic Excel functions (SUM, AVERAGE, COUNT,
MIN, MAX, IF, COUNTIF) to analyze a given dataset.

Materials Needed:

 Computer with Microsoft Excel installed

 Sample Excel file (or students can create their own dataset)
 Activity worksheet (printed or digital)
IV. EVALUATION:

Direction: Choose the best answer for each question. Circle the letter of the correct response.
1. Which formula is used to find the average of a range of numbers in Excel?
a. =SUM(A1:A10)
b. =COUNT(A1:A10)
c .=AVERAGE(A1:A10)
d. =MIN(A1:A10)
Answer: c =AVERAGE(A1:A10)
2. If you want to count how many cells contain numbers in a given range, which function should
you use?
a. =SUM()
b. =COUNT()
c. =COUNTA()
d. =IF()
Answer: b. =COUNT()
3. What does the formula =IF(A1>100, "High", "Low") do?
a. Returns "High" if A1 is greater than 100, otherwise returns "Low"
b. Counts numbers greater than 100 in column A
c. Finds the highest number in column A
d. Checks if A1 is empty
Answer: A) Returns "High" if A1 is greater than 100, otherwise returns "Low"
4. Which function is used to find the highest value in a range?
a. =MIN()
b. =AVERAGE()
c. =MAX()
d. =COUNT()
Answer: C) =MAX()
5. If you need to sum all values in the range A1:A10 only if they are greater than 50, which
function should you use?
a. =SUM(A1:A10)
b. =SUMIF(A1:A10, ">50")
c. =COUNTIF(A1:A10, ">50")
d. =AVERAGEIF(A1:A10, ">50")
Answer: B) =SUMIF(A1:A10, ">50")
