and their use extends beyond higher education

Meishar-Tal, Kurtz, and Pieterse (2012) mentioned

three primary purposes of an LMS. They include the
following:
1. To provide students with digital learning
materials;
2. To employ interactive learning
activities with students in the forums;
and
3. To manage the course and the learners

Implementation Issues of LMS

- Implementation challenges in higher education
institutions include budgetary, logistical, and
practical aspects. Student populations pose
the biggest challenge, with interaction and
collaboration being crucial for creating a
learning community. The growing influence of
social media and the need for skepticism on
technology and its applications are increasing.
Familiarity is essential for intuitive learning,
including understanding course goals and
objectives, and integrating technology into
course activities. The placement of participants
is another significant issue, as they are
unfamiliar with the environment and must
integrate new material with existing content.
Lack of training for faculty members and
inadequate support can also hinder the
implementation and expansion of online
programs. To address these challenges, it is
essential to develop multiple skills that enable
faculty to create technology-based instructiona
materials and involve end-user involvement
earlier in implementations.

Student-Friendly Features of LMS

- Some of the major LMS features include
content organization; communication options
such as email, discussion boards, and chat
rooms; file exchange; testing and evaluation
tools; grade book; analytics that help the
instructor understand how students utilize the
LMS content; and integration with campus
portal. The following are some of the student-
friendly features of LMS that should be
considered when purchasing one.
1. Ease of access to content at any time.
2. High interactivity level.
3. Excellent tracking and reporting.
4. Security and privacy.
5. Flexible testing and assessment.

LMS-Related Innovations
- Learning management systems can be
accessed from various devices, including
personal computers and network-capable
technologies. Successful usage requires
proper access, defined roles, and a technology
acceptance model. Siliman University in the
Philippines developed an online-functiona
LMS in sticks, allowing content transfer and
management on USB flash drives.
Gamification is also an innovation, allowing
students to play favorite games while learning,
enhancing engagement and learning
experiences.

After the discussion, the teacher will prepare a short

quiz to test their understanding on the lesson that
have been discussed.

3. Give at least 3 student- friendly features of
LMS that should be considered when
purchasing one.
Assessment: Essay:
- Write an essay about the educational benefits
of learning management system.

Reflection: “In order to create an engaging learning experience, the role of instructor is
optional, but the role of learner is essential.” – Bernard Bull
Assignment: - The students will be assigned to conduct self-study on the topic to
deepen their knowledge and understanding. They will also be
expected to do advance preparation for the next class discussion.
