An adverb is a word that modifies a verb, adjective, or another adverb.

Adverbs typically express intensity, frequency, manner, place and time.

A. Adverbs of Intensity

Adverbs of Intensity or adverbs of degree tell us about the intensity or degree

of something. It is usually placed before the verb, an adjective, or another adverb.
The words too, enough, very, quite, just, almost, extremely, etc. are examples of
adverbs of intensity.

Examples:

- The water was extremely cold.

- The movie was quite interesting.

3
B. Adverbs of Frequency

Adverbs of Frequency describes how often an action happens or takes place.

There are six (6) main adverbs of frequency that we use in English: always, usually
(or normally), often, sometimes, rarely, and never. They are often written before a
verb because they describe the frequency of action or event expressed in the verb.

Examples:

- Spiderman always wears his mask on every mission.

- Art and Arjay often go out for dinner together.

C. Adverbs of Manner

Adverbs of Manner tell how. They describe action words or verbs. The words
severely, swiftly, sweetly, fast, still, and loudly answer the question how.

Examples:

- Annie neatly wrote a letter to her friend.

- The debutant danced gracefully with her father.

D. Adverbs of Place and Time

Adverbs of Place tell where something is done. They also indicate both
location and movement.

Adverbs of

, Time tell when an action happened and for how long.

Examples:

- Who traveled around the world?

- The graduation ceremony will happen soon.
