are produced than can possibly survive due to limited resources, leading to numeracy skills.
competition for survival; and third, that there is a variation in traits among
offspring which is also inherited. These principles suggest that individuals
with traits that are better suited to their environment will survive longer and
have more offspring, thereby passing those adaptive traits on to future
generations. As for the possible effects of natural selection on human
traits, the development of characteristics such as efficient walking and
running has historically been important for human survival. However, as
cultural changes have led to new ways of life, some traits have become
less advantageous or even maladaptive. This interplay between genetics
and environment continues to shape our evolution today.

Jean Baptiste de Lamarck, a French naturalist was the first evolutionist who COI# 6 Maintained learning
believed that organisms change over time. He proposed that organism evolve in environments that promote
response to their environment. The word “evolve” means to change gradually. He fairness, respect and care

and abstractions According to Darwin, originally, giraffes had varying neck lengths. Natural
about the lesson selection favored the survival of long-necked giraffes because it allows them to
reach for food on tall trees while short necked giraffes were eliminated because of
their inability to reach higher vegetation when there is scarcity of low vegetation
such as grasses. This eliminated them from the population of giraffes.

organisms without those traits. (Darwin)
