GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS:
This Question Paper comprises Six Sections – Section A, B, C, D, E and F. There are 37 questions in the Question
Paper. All Questions are compulsory.

1. Section A – Question No. 1 to 20 are Multiple Choice Question of 1 mark each


2. Section B – Question No 21 to 24 are very short answer type questions carrying 2
Marks each. Answer to each question should not exceed 40 words
3. Section C – Question No 25 to 29 are Short answer type questions carrying 3 marks
each. Answer to each question should not exceed 60 words
4. Section D – Question No 30 to 32 is are Case Based Question carrying 4 marks each.
5. Section E – Question No 33 to 36 are Long Answer type question carrying 5 marks
Answer to each question should not exceed 120 words.

Section – D Case Study


30. Read the passage given below and answer the questions that follow:
1. The Peninsular Plateau is flanked by stretch of narrow coastal strips, running
along the Arabian Sea in the west and the Bay of Bengal in the east. The western
coast, sandwiched between he Western Ghats and the Arabian Sea, is a narrow
plain. It consists of three sections. The northern part of the coast is called the
Kankan (Mumbai – Goa) the central stretch is called the Kannad Plain, while the
Southern stretch is referred to as the Malabar Coast. The Plains along the Bay of
Bengal are wide and level. In the northern part, it is referred to as the Northern
Circar, while the southern part is known as the Coromandal Coast. Large rivers
such as the Mahanadi, the Godavari, the Krishna and the Kaveri have formed
extensive delta on this coast. Lake Chilika is an important feature along the
eastern coast.

31. Poverty in India also has another aspect or dimension. The proportion of poor people
is not the same in every state. States like Madhya Pradesh , Assam, Uttar Pradesh,
Bihar and Orissa add above All India poverty level. Bihar and Orissa continue to be
the two poorest states with poverty ratios. There has been a substantial reduction in
global poverty. Poverty decline substantially in China and Southeast Asian countries
as a result of rapid economic growth and massive investments in human resource
development. There were a number of causes for the widespread poverty in India.
One historical reason is the low level of economic development under the British
colonial administration. The policies of the colonial government ruined traditional
handicrafts and discreet development of industries like textiles. Removal of poverty
has been one of the major objectives of Indian developmental strategy. In these
circumstances there is a clear need for targeted anti- poverty programmes. Although
there are so many schemes which are formulated to affect poverty directly or
indirectly. These anti -poverty programs are Mahatma Gandhi national rural
employment guarantee act, Prime Minister Rozgar Yojana, Rural employment
generation programme, Swarna Jayanti Gram Swarovskar Yojana, Pradhan mantri
Gramodaya Yojana etc.

candidates contact their voters, political leaders address election meetings and
political parties mobilize their supporters. This is also the period when newspapers
and television news are full of election related stories and debates. But election
campaign is not limited to these two weeks only. Political parties start preparing for
elections months before they actually takes place. In election campaigns political
parties try to focus public attention on some big issues. They want to attract the public
to that issue and get them to vote for their party on that basis.
