UNIT 5: Multiplication, Multiples & Factors

Welcome to your independent revision guide for Unit 5! This guide will help you practice
multiplication, multiples, and factors on your own. Each section has activities that you can complete
to revise what you've learned. Remember, this is your guide, so take your time and try to do the
activities independently.

5.1 Tables, Multiples, and Factors

Understanding Factors

Factors are numbers that multiply together to make another number. For example, the factors of 8
are numbers that can multiply to make 8.

Activity 1:
Look at these numbers: 24, 36, and 45. Write down all the factor pairs for each number. For example,
factor pairs of 8 are (1, 8) and (2, 4).

Finding Missing Factors

It’s important to know all the factors of a number. Can you fill in the missing factors?

Activity 2:
Write down the missing factors for these numbers:

• Factors of 12: 1, ____, ____, 12

• Factors of 20: ____, ____, ____, 20

• Factors of 30: ____, ____, ____, ____, ____, 30

Multiplication Grid

The multiplication grid helps you find the product of two numbers. Practice filling in grids to become
more confident.

Here are some examples:

Activity 3:
Complete the examples. Draw a 4x4 multiplication grid, and fill in the products for numbers any 6
numbers from 1-9. Check your answers by multiplying the numbers.
Multiplication Pyramid

In a multiplication pyramid, the number of a brick is the product of the two numbers below.

Activity 4:
Here are some examples for you to try:

6 8

4 3 2 4 5

Comparing Multiplications

Sometimes you need to compare two multiplication results to see which is bigger or smaller.

Activity 5:
For each pair, use the signs < (less than), > (greater than), or = (equal to):

• 4 x 5 ___ 6 x 3

• 7 x 8 ___ 9 x 6

• 2 x 10 ___ 5 x 4

Identifying Multiples

Multiples are numbers you get by multiplying a number by 1, 2, 3, and so on. Not all numbers are
multiples of 9!

Activity 6:
Circle the numbers that are not multiples of 7:
14, 28, 35, 45, 63, 49, 56, 70
Multiplication triangles

We can also use triangles to share multiplication facts.

Activity 7:
Here are some examples for you to complete as practice:

7 6

28 18

5 4 9 3

5.2 Multiplication

Choosing the Right Method

Different problems can be solved using different methods. Practice finding which method works best
for you.

12 x 2 x 5 12 x 2 x 5

Activity 8:
Solve these multiplication problems and circle which method you used (A or B)

• 20 x 5 x 2

• 6x2x5

• 9x5x2

Finding Products

Some products can be tricky to calculate. Practice spotting the right answers.

Activity 9:
Circle all the products that equal 2400:
600 x 4, 400 x 6, 800 x 3, 1200 x 2, 200 x 12
Final Review Game

Activity 10:
Create multiplication flashcards for numbers 1 to 12. On one side, write a multiplication question
(e.g., 6 x 7 = ?), and on the other side, write the answer. Test yourself to see how fast you can
complete the deck!

Good luck revising! Remember to check your work and keep practicing to improve your
multiplication, multiples, and factors skills.
