Programming is a process

Is ‘‘A process leading to the statement of an architectural problem and the requirements to be met in offering a solution”

Programming IS analysis - Design IS synthesis

Program: List of accommodations: List the accommodations/functions of the project based on the objective and pre
design study conducted

Standards: Furniture and fixtures size; Room size requirements (length, width and height); Circulation
requirements (Stairs and corridors; Opening requirements (doors and windows); Light and ventilation
requirements; Safety and security requirements; Parking

Area: Calculate the area required for each accommodations/functions

Conceptual development/ Form development

Conceptual development Form development

 An idea, or several ideas, which will become the catalyst for your design
 Some thing formed in the mind / a thought or notion A combination of concept and site analysis
 Mind representation
 Solution
 Driving force of any project / an identity

Craft the initial storyline that will serve as a catalyst for the development of
the project. This idea will be used in guiding the project progress and detailed
development
Where do IDEAS (CONCEPTS) come from?
Site (site analysis)
Program (functional requirements)
Place / Culture / Society
Technology / Material / Method
Personal Architectural influences
 Space / Emotions
 Speed / Technology
 Memory / Place
Precedent research
Architectural Theories
Case study: Local and international

Both local and international

Select one international project and one local project that is similar to your project and
review the projects with supportive photos, drawings and illustration considering the
descriptions below:
