II. Background and Rationale of WAP:

In 2018, the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) results suggested that most Filipino students need more time to be
ready for life after school. These areas of learners’ poor performance were interestingly identified in an analysis of teachers’
performance in the Teacher Development Needs Study (TDNS, 2014). The poor assessment results for Filipino learners, therefore,
necessitate a reform initiative directed at supporting the strengthening of teachers’ subject knowledge and pedagogy to improve learner
performance.

To assist in this reform initiative, the SDO 1 Pangasinan through the Curriculum Implementation Division (CID), conducted this training
on Teachers’ Enhancement of Critical Thinking Skills in HUMSS IC Instruction.

The PD Program goals are to:

a. Equip HUMSS IC teachers with strategies and methodologies to foster critical thinking skills in students.
b. Enhance teachers' understanding and application of Bloom's Taxonomy and the SOLO Model in the context of HUMSS IC
instruction.
c. Develop instructional activities that integrate critical thinking skills into the HUMSS IC curriculum.
d. Encourage a culture of inquiry and reflection among HUMSS IC teachers and students.
e. Appreciate the positive impact of HOTS teaching on student’s learning outcomes.
