1. Describe the achievements of Medieval Asia and the Islamic Empires. Provide two
specific achievements and their impact.
Islamic: Literature, Philosophy
Medieval Asia: Paper, Printing, Gunpowder

2. What are the positive and negative implications of human connection and interaction?
Positive: Can better the well being and health of humans
Negative: Conflict, Emotional distress, anxiety, stress, social pressure, etc.

3. How does a call for a crusade demonstrate the power of the pope and the Catholic
Church?

People will just automatically listen if the pope tells them to do something.

4. How did the Hundred Years’ War and the Plague affect Western Europe? (Give 3 specific
examples) Why do many historians define the end of the Middle Ages as the end of the
Hundred Years’ War?
1. There was a lot of chaos and not a lot of places had a designated ruler
2. When the middle ages ended so did most of the pope. This means that there isn’t a singular
power anymore
5. In what ways did power/authority, conflict, and innovation develop similarly/differently
throughout the Middle Ages?

The pope was the highest power and the rest of the power and authority was split up into a
social hierarchy.

● Middle Ages- considered to be the time between the fall of the Roman Empire and
the Renaissance

● What was the impact of the fall of the Roman Empire on Western Europe?
It led to instability and political chaos as there was no empire anymore. There was mostly just
remnants and people had to adjust.
● Role of the Church in Europe as a unifying force

The church was at the same level as the King if not higher. The church helped unify Europe
because it had very high respect and people followed its rules

● What led to the rise of feudalism?


o Describe the manor system/feudal society – social structure

There were people with higher amounts of wealth and land which caused the lower wealthy
people to become peasants

● Why was the crowning of Charlemagne so important?

It helped him gain respect because he was crowned by the pope

● What were the causes and impacts of the Crusades?


Different religions believed that they had access to different land and it created holy wars
when they would both try and claim it. The christianity religion won the first war and then the
Muslims won all the other ones.

● Why could the Crusades be considered one of Europe’s most successful failures?

It was a war but it all ended once the pope went away

● What was significant about the Magna Carta?


The first principle that was put into writing that said that the king was not above the law

● What were the impacts of the Hundred Years’ War?


Much of france was put to waste and caused suffering

● Why was Joan of Arc significant?

Led the french army in the battle of orleans

The plague and widespread corruption
