b) Discuss the heterogeneity of developing countries in terms of (a) Population and geographic size, (b)
Language and religion (c) Experiences in the colonial era (d) Levels of education and (e) Natural resource
endowments. (5)
2. a) How does the interdependence between developing and developed countries influence the
construction project management in a developing country? Explain with specific examples. (7)
b) Discuss the needs of the developed countries from the developing countries. How are these needs
fulfilled, and how are these needs related to construction project management of developing countries?

3. a) What role, do you think, the belief system of Nepalese society, like the predestination (purba janmako
karmako phal) is playing in Nepal being one of the least developed countries? How does this type of
belief system affect the safety measures taken by a contractor against accidents and disasters in a
construction project management? Suggest ways to improve the safety measures in a construction
project site. (5)
b) Discuss, with specific examples, the social, economic, political, legal and technological factors
influencing project environment in a developing country. (10)
4. a) What are the reasons for the lack of focus on development of appropriate construction technologies
for developing countries, despite the fact that there are hundreds of technicians and engineers now in
developing countries, like Nepal, with decades of experience? (5)
b) Discuss the relative merits and demerits of labor based technologies in infrastructure development
project in a remote area in a developing country. (10)
5. a) Discuss the stages of stakeholder participation in a construction project. Do you think all types of
stakeholders should be involved in all stages of construction project? (10)
b) Discuss the objectives of project maintenance? What needs to be done during the planning and design
phases to ensure smooth maintenance of a project? (5)
6. a) What specific steps need to be taken to bring the focus on preventive maintenance, rather than
corrective maintenance, in Nepalese construction project management practices? (5)
