Duct Sizing (by Static Regain Method)

The document outlines the MEP-Duct Design process using the Static Regain Method, detailing steps for calculating duct sizes based on airflow and velocity. It includes specific calculations for different duct sections (A to E) with input conditions, outputs, and remarks on static pressure versus friction loss. The final step involves transferring the calculated values into a duct schematic drawing using AutoCAD.

MEP-Duct Design -Static regain Method

1st step First we have to select our Velocity for industry
2nd step We have to used Inch pound Formula in our calculation
3rd step Lets Consider our Machine capacity 8000 CFM and Duct length is
 Section A =45 ’ L & 8000 CFM . B= 40’L & 6000 CFM , C=40’L & 4000 CFM ,
D= 35’L &2000 CFM, E=branch 15’ L & 1000 CFM
 Open drawing and started to Calculation. In our excel sheet.
SECTION - A
1) INPUT: Open Duct sizer and select Condition 75 F and 50% RH Input flow rate 8000 CFM and
velocity 3000 FPM

2) OUTPUT: We get the value of .511 in WC/100 ft and equivalent diameter 22.1 and rectangular size 16”
*26 inch .We take 16” hight and width 26” for our design. And put it the output in Excel sheet . and ensure
the static pressure is larger then friction loss.
SECTION - A
SECTION –B
1) INPUT: Open Duct sizer Again select Condition 75 F and 50% RH Input flow rate 6000 CFM and velocity
2400 FPM

2) OUTPUT: We get the value of .345 in WC/100 ft and equivalent diameter 21.4 and rectangular size
24*16 inch .We take 16” hight and width 24” for our design.
And put it the output in Excel sheet . and ensure the static pressure is larger then friction loss.
SECTION –B
SECTION - C
1) INPUT: Open Duct sizer Again select Condition 75 F and 50% RH Input flow rate 4000 CFM and
velocity 1900 FPM

2) OUTPUT: We get the value of .244 in WC/100 ft and equivalent diameter 19.6 and rectangular
size 20”*16” inch .We take 16” hight and width 20” for our design.
And put it the output in Excel sheet . and ensure the static pressure is larger then friction loss.
SECTION - C
SECTION - D
1) INPUT: Open Duct sizer Again select Condition 75 F and 50% RH Input flow rate 2000 CFM and
velocity 1800FPM

2) OUTPUT: We get the value of .326 in WC/100 ft and Put it in our excel sheet.
we find that the static pressure value 0.021 in wg is smaller then friction value 0.114 in wg
So we can’t take this velocity for our design and write the remarks ( wrong .)
SECTION -D
1) INPUT: Open Duct sizer Again select Condition 75 F and 50% RH Input flow rate 2000 CFM and
velocity 1600FPM

2) OUTPUT: We get the value of 0.242 in WC/100 ft and Put it in our excel sheet.
we find that the static pressure value 0.059 in wg is smaller then friction value 0.085
So we can’t take this velocity for our design and write the remarks ( wrong .)
SECTION - D
1) INPUT: Open Duct sizer Again select Condition 75 F and 50% RH Input flow rate 2000 CFM and
velocity 1500FPM

2) OUTPUT: We get the value of 0.205 in WC/100 ft and Put it in our excel sheet. we find that the static
pressure value 0.077 in Wg is larger then friction value 0.072
So we take this velocity for our design and put the value Equivalent dia 15.6” and Rec dia 16”*14”
We take 16” as our width and 14” as our Duct Hight remarks ok.
SECTION - D
SECTION - E
1) INPUT: Open Duct sizer Again select Condition 75 F and 50% RH Input flow rate 1000 CFM and
velocity 1300FPM
2) OUTPUT: We get the value of 0.219 in WC/100 ft and Put it in our excel sheet. we find that the static
pressure value 0.087 in Wg is larger then friction value 0.033
So we take this velocity for our design and put the value Equivalent dia 15.6” and Rec dia 16”*14”
We take 16” as our width and 14” as our Duct Hight remarks ok.
SECTION – E-BRANCH
Put the all value from Excel sheet to Duct SLD and then started to drawing In Autocad
