Electromagnetic_spectrum

The electromagnetic spectrum encompasses all types of electromagnetic waves, ranging from radio waves to gamma rays, which travel at the speed of light. It includes various types of waves such as radio waves, microwaves, infrared, visible light, ultraviolet, X-rays, and gamma rays, each with distinct properties and applications. These waves are primarily invisible, except for visible light, and serve various functions in communication, cooking, medical imaging, and more.

What is the Electromagnetic Spectrum?

● It’s the range of all types of electromagnetic waves, from radio waves to gamma rays.
● These waves are invisible(except for visible light) and travel at the speed of
light(300,000 km/s).

Types of Electromagnetic Waves

1. Radio Waves:
● Longest wavelength, lowest energy.
● Used for radio, TV, and mobile signals.
2. Microwaves:
● Shorter than radio waves.
● Used for cooking (microwaves) and satellite communication.
3. Infrared (IR):
● Felt as heat.
● Used in remote controls and night-vision devices.
4. Visible Light:
● The only part we can see.
● Includes all the colors of the rainbow (red to violet).
5. Ultraviolet (UV):
● Comes from the sun.
● Can cause sunburn but also helps make vitamin D.
6. X-rays:
● High energy can pass through soft tissues but not bones.
● Used in medical imaging.
7. Gamma Rays:
● Shortest wavelength, highest energy.
● Used in cancer treatment and comes from nuclear reactions.
