One day, in January, in the middle of the dry season, all the people of Agadu village were thirsty. There wasn’t
any water in the wells of the village, they all dried up. They went to the river but there wasn’t any water in it. So, the
chief of the village, Togbui Tatagan called a meeting of all the villagers at the public place of the village.
He said: “It hasn’t rained for three months, and it won’t rain until march.” He paused for seconds to clear his
throat. “If we don’t do something soon, we’ll all die of thirst. Right, there is only one thing to do. We must dig a very
deep well.”
- Have we got any hoe or digger? Asked Gohoungo the carpenter.
- No, replied the chief. We’ll have to buy some.
- But we haven’t got any money, said Bossoungo.
- Then we’ll have to sell something … we’ll have to sell our ears.
