2. At a point A, 20 metres above the level of water in a lake, the angle of


elevation of a cloud is 30◦ . The angle of depression of the reflection of the
cloud in the lake, at A, is 60◦ . Find the distance of the cloud from A.
3. The angle of elevation of the top of a tower at a distance of 120 m from
a point A on the ground is 45◦ . If the angle of elevation of the top of a

flagstaff fixed at the

1. Theorem: The lengths of tangents drawn from an external point to a
circle are equal.

3. P Q is a chord of length 16 cm, of a circle of radius 10 cm. The tangents
at P and Q intersect at a point T . Find the length of T P .
4. In the given figure, l and m are two parallel tangents to a circle with

Chapter 12: Surface Areas and Volume


1. A vessel is in the form of a hemispherical bowl surmounted by a hollow
cylinder of the same diameter. The diameter of the hemispherical bowl is

14 cm and the total height of the vessel is 13 cm. Find the total (inner)
surface area of the vessel.
2. In the given figure, a decorative block is made up of two solids—a cube
and a hemisphere. The base of the block is a cube of side 6 cm, and the
