Micro-Project Report

Title of Micro-Project: Business Plan on Electric Vehicle Charging

Station.
1.0 Rationale:
Globalization, liberalization, and privatization, along with the revolution
in information technology, have opened up new opportunities
transforming the lives of the masses. In this context, there is immense
opportunity for establishing manufacturing, service, trading, marketing,
and consultancy enterprises by diploma engineers. Our fast-growing
economy provides ample scope for diploma engineers to succeed as
entrepreneurs. Entrepreneurship requires distinct skill sets, which are
attempted to be developed through this course. To begin with, this
course aims to develop competency and the related outcomes in order
to start a small enterprise.

2.0 Aims / Benefits of the Micro Project:

This Micro project aims at developing a Business Plan for an Electric
Vehicle Charging Station.

3.0 Course Outcomes Achieved:

a) Use the support system to finalize a business idea. b) Develop a
comprehensive business plan.

4.0 Literature Review:

Conserving energy efficiently is becoming a challenging problem around
the globe, specifically in developing countries. One main reason is the
lack of awareness among end users (or consumers) about the usage of
new and emerging techniques and technologies that can help mitigate
the aforementioned problem. This paper will present the state-of-the-art
technologies proposed in the literature related to enabling solutions for
energy conservation. It also highlights infrastructure and communication
models used in the literature for implementing such applications. Based
on the existing literature, this paper mentions areas that need more
attention and can serve as open issues or gaps for future research.
Finally, this paper presents our proposed model.

5.0 Actual Methodology Followed:

The process for this micro project involves creating a PowerPoint
presentation showcasing a business plan for an Electric Vehicle Charging
Station. We collected and organized information based on the following
steps:
1. Collect information on business plans.
2. Collect information on charging stations.
3. Show the information to faculty.
4. Learn about business strategies.
5. Draft a preliminary report and refine it.
6. Make necessary corrections and prepare a final proposal.
7. Prepare a detailed report on the business plan for an Electric
Vehicle Charging Station.
8. Create a PowerPoint presentation for the business plan.

3. Learned how to start and manage a business.

8.0 Skills Developed / Learning Outcomes:

This micro project helped develop various skills, primarily related to
business planning for Electric Vehicle Charging Stations. From this
project, we learned about the setup and operation of charging stations.

9.0 Applications of this Micro-Project:

Electric Vehicle Charging Stations are used to charge electric cars and
bikes. These stations can be set up in locations such as colleges, hotels,
offices, etc., making charging easily accessible to the public.
Business Plan on Electric Vehicle Charging Station
EV charging stations, repair workshops, and home charging station
setups offer promising business opportunities. The increased awareness
about environmental sustainability and the rise of electric vehicles
(including e-cars and e-scooters) have placed EV charging stations among
the top business opportunities in India. Similar to setting up a petrol
pump or a biofuel station, EV charging stations are expected to capture a
significant share of the global market in the coming years.
What does an EV charging station do? An EV charging station provides
charging services for electric two-wheelers, cars, and e-rickshaws. Some
people charge their e-vehicles at home, while others rely on public
charging stations. Many establishments lack dedicated charging points
with essential security features, creating the need for numerous public
charging stations.
Cost of Setting Up an EV Charging Station: The cost of starting an EV
charging station is relatively low compared to other business ventures.
The government of India has declared that no license is required for
setting up EV charging infrastructure, provided it complies with the
standards set by the Ministry of Power. The cost primarily includes setup
expenses such as chargers, electricity, software, infrastructure,
advertisement, manpower, and maintenance. On average, setting up an
EV charging point costs between Rs. 1,00,000 and Rs. 45,00,000,
depending on the type of chargers installed.
Types of EV Chargers:
 Type 1: A single-phase plug that can charge up to 3 kW, typically used
for home charging.
 Type 2: A three-phase plug with a power capacity between 7.4 kW
and 43 kW, compatible with both AC and DC charging systems.
 Combined Charging System (CCS): Handles both Type 1 AC and Type
2 DC fast charging with a power input of up to 350 kW.
 Chademo Charger: A rapid charger with a power input of up to 400
kW by 1000V, widely accepted in over 70 countries.
 GB/T Charger: Recommended by the government of India, with
Bharat DC 001 providing 15 kW output and Bharat AC 001 providing
10 kW output.
Market Analysis & SWOT Analysis:
 Strengths: Prime location, diverse services, experienced management
team.
 Weaknesses: New business with limited brand recognition.
 Opportunities: High demand for EV infrastructure, government
incentives.
 Threats: Slow adoption of EV technology, potential competition.
Sales and Marketing Strategy:
 Providing fast charging and battery swap services.
 Selling EV spare parts and offering repair services.
 Advertising through print media, social media, and roadshows.
 Sponsoring community programs and placing billboards at strategic
locations.

10.0 Conclusion:
A well-planned business strategy is essential for successfully launching
and operating an Electric Vehicle Charging Station. With the right
resources and marketing approach, this venture can be highly profitable
and sustainable.
