PULSE‐21 CARD TESTING PROCEDURE

Tools Required

• Multimeter
• Aligner
• Screw driver set

Do’s

• Switch Off the machine while checking Feedback resistance.


• Clean the pulse‐21 card surface with dry cloth to avoid malfunctioning due to moisture.
• Remove the glue used at POT cautiously‐POT should not damage.
• Remove the connector CP1/CP3 from Pulse‐21 card while checking the resistance
• See visually component/parts f the pulse‐21 card for any damage/dry solder/open.
• Use track behind the pots P1 & P3 if test points TP1 & TP3 are not available (Applicable for old
version Pulse‐21 card).
• Connect one lead at machine body ground for easy contact with ground instead of connecting at
CP1‐2 connector at pulse‐21 card.

Don’ts

• Do not check the resistance machine ON condition.


• Do not vary pots after reaching to the extreme limit.
• Do not change/remove POTs in Field.

PROCEDURE:‐
¾ Feedback connector‐ CP1
• Remove CP1 connector from Pulse‐21 card.
• Connect one lead of multimeter at body ground connect another lead at
o CP1‐1‐w.r.t to body ground (19.5KΩ to 20.5KΩ) ideal 20KΩ adjust POT P2
o CP1‐3 w.r.t to body ground (19.5KΩ to 20.5KΩ) ideal 20KΩ adjust POT P4
o CP1‐1 =CP1‐3
• Connect one lead of multimeter at body ground connect another lead at
o TP1/Track1 w.r.t to body ground (46KΩ to 50KΩ) ideal 48KΩ adjust POT P1
o TP3/Track 2 w.r.t to body ground (46KΩ to 50KΩ) ideal 48KΩ adjust POT P3
o TP1=TP3
• Check zener diodes (D21 & D22) in forward & reversed bias
¾ Filament Supply connector‐CP2
o Remove CP2 connector from Pulse‐21 card.
o Check there should be continuity at CP2‐3& 5 for Large Filament transformer input.
o Check the continuity at CP2‐3& 4 for Small Filament transformer input. (if
applicable)
o If not available then replace the HT/Tube head
o Check there should be continuity at CP2‐1 & 2‐ for thermal Switch
ƒ If Not available in case of tube head replace the thermal Switch
ƒ If not available in case of HT Tank‐Replace the HT Tank

¾ Starter/Rotor terminal‐CP3 (Applicable in case of mobile machines with Rotating Anode Tube)
o Remove CP3 connector from Pulse‐21 card.
o Check resistance with multimeter at CP3‐C & S‐it should be 50Ω+/‐5Ω.
o Check resistance with multimeter at CP3‐C & P‐it should be 25Ω+/‐5Ω.
o If above resistance is not available then change the tube head

¾ Solenoid terminal‐CP3 (Applicable in case of R/F Machine with Double HT Tank)


o Remove CP3 connector from Pulse‐21 card.
o Check resistance with multimeter at CP3‐C & OC‐it should be 90Ω+/‐10Ω.
o Check resistance with multimeter at CP3‐C & UC‐it should be 90Ω+/‐10Ω.
o If above resistance is not available then change the Double tank

card also note down the interconnections of pulse-18 card & IGBT terminals also Remove the Main

Test Points:-
Firing Terminals:-
Check continuity on firing terminals 4&5, 6&7 as shown above in any polarity (-Ve & +Ve terminals of
millimeter). There should be no continuity. If continuity observed then IGBT are def.

Main terminals:-
Remove the wires connected on main terminals.
Terminal-1 is Output; Terminal-2 is Negative Input, Terminal-3 Positive Input

PROCEDURE FOR INVERTER OUTPUT VERIFICATION

Tools Required:‐

• Screw driver set


• Aligner
• Nut driver 8mm
• Bulbs 40/60/100W‐230VAC‐ 2nos. connected in series
• Spanner
• Wire cutter

Do’s

• Connect the A & B terminal wires on pulse 21 card after completing the
procedure as connected before or see the connections at inverter side to
avoid wrong connections. (Applicable in fixed HF x‐ray, DR machines).
• Ensure bulbs should glow before connecting at A & B terminals wire at
pulse‐21 card side.
• Connect the bulb supply wires on the wires removed from pulse‐21 card
(ON HT Tank/Tube head).
• Remove IC U‐13 (4049) from Pulse‐19 card.

Don’ts

• Bulb supply wires connections should not be loose on A & B wires thimbles
• Do not insert IC (U13) in reverse direction after completion of the test at
pulse‐19 card.
• Do not use single bulb in case of 3‐phase inverter.
• Do not remove IC U13 permanently from pulse‐19 card.
Procedure:‐

• Switch OFF the machine.


• From Pulse‐19 card Remove IC U13 (4049)
• Remove the Wires connected at pulse‐21 card (On HT Tank/ Tub Head).
• Use 2 bulbs connected in series (40/60/100W, 230VAC).
• Check bulbs should glow after connecting in series
• Now connect the Bulb supply wires on the wires removed from Pulse‐21
card “A & B terminals” properly.
• Switch ON the machine.
• Select 40KV & mAS 10 (In case of radiograph machines).
• Make exposure.
• Bulb should glow‐If not glowing then follow the inverter testing procedures
for checking Pulse‐19 card, IGBT, Pulse‐21, Pulse‐18 com Card & power
supply section.
• If bulb is glowing then Inverter is OK.

VERIFICATION OF IGBT, PULSE‐20, RECTIFIER

Tools required

• Screw driver Set


• Aligner
• Multimeter
• Spanner 10‐11mm
• Nut driver 7mm
• Nut driver 8mm

Strictly follow the below points:‐

Do’s

• Use the proper tools to open the Screws on main terminals of IGBT
• Discharge the capacitors before working on the IGBT.
• Mount the new IGBT with proper layer of Heat sink compound.
• Insert the thimbles on firing terminals wires properly on the IGBT pins.
Don’ts

• Do not touch the IGBT gates terminals pins unnecessarily


• Do not over tighten the main terminals wires connections.
• Do not make wrong connections between pulse‐18 com card & IGBT gates

Testing Procedure

• Discharge the capacitors with the help of bulb or wait for 30‐45minute till it discharged.
• Note down the interconnections between IGBT Firing terminals & Pulse‐18 com card.
• Remove the gates terminals wires from IGBT.
• Now verify the continuity between firing terminals pins 4&5, 6&7 there should be no continuity
in any polarity. If observed continuity then IGBT are defective.
• If there is no continuity on firing terminals then remove the wires connections & Pulse‐20 card
mounted on main terminals. & verify now as per below chart

• If IGBT are observed defective then open the four screws & remove the defective IGBT

• Verify the Pulse‐20 card Diodes (D1‐D2‐D3‐D4) in forward & reversed bias & Resistances (R1‐R2‐
R3‐R4) should not be burn or open. If observed defective then replace.

• Now verify the semiconductor HRC fuse‐Should not be open. If observed open then change the
fuse.

• Resistances (50K, 10W) mounted on capacitors should not be open.


• Capacitors should not get leaked. See physically.

Pulse-18 com card testing procedure


Tools required

• CRO

• Aligner
• Pulse-19 card testing Zig
• 2bulbs (40/60/100W) connected in series for capacitor discharge.
• Nut driver 7mm
• LN-key Set.

Strictly follow the below mentioned points:‐

Do’s

• Discharge the capacitors before working inside the inverter.


• Troubleshoot according to the glow of indicators on pulse-18 com card.
• Note down the connections between Pulse-18 com card & IGBT Firing terminals before
removing from IGBT side.

Don’ts

• Do not give 1-phase/3-phase mains input after removing firing terminals wires from
IGBT.
• Do not touch the IGBT gates terminals unnecessarily.
• Make sure White & red wires coming from pulse-18 com card should not touch with each
other after removing from IGBT terminals

• Note down the Inter connections between Pulse-18 com card & IGBT.
• Remove all the firing signal wires connections from IGBT.
• Make sure that white (-VE) & Red (+VE) wires should not get short with each other.
• Connection of Pulse-19 card testing with Zig.
o Remove the feedback connector CP2 coming from tube head or HT Tank
o Connect the Feedback connector CP2 coming from feedback Jig.
o Connect the FRC Cable at CF2 coming from feedback Jig.
o Remove CP1-4 wire from pulse-19 card
• CF1 FRC cable coming from pulse-18 com card should be connected in pulse-19 card.

• Connect CP1 (2-pin connector) 24VDC supply in pulse-18 com card.


• Connect CRO probe on White (-Ve) & Red (+Ve) wires.

Check points:‐

• Switch on the machine Select 40KVP & mAS (160mas in case of HF x-ray & DR)
• LED1 should glow while switching on the Pulse-18 com card. If not glowing then change the IC
regulator or change all the IC one by one.
• If D10 red LED glows at the ON time then change the IC one by one.
• Make exposure & check the waveform use Emergency Exposure in case of C-arm with Pulse
fluoroscopy (DIP-IQ/LDHD/1K1K).
• Check waveform and voltage 30V peak to peak signal at all the wire pairs which were removed
from IGBT’s (on Red and White wire pairs) with the help of CRO. If 30V peak to peak voltage
signal is not available on any of pair wires then change the IC (See below the IC detail) or pulse
18 com card.

Pulse-19 card testing procedure with artificial feedback zig

Tools required:-

Strictly follow the below points:-

Do’s

• Follow the procedure step by step.


• Feedback voltage should be calibrated to +1.90 & -1.90V
• Remove CP1-4 wire to avoid filament fault (Not applicable for c-arm & Cath lab)

Don’ts

• Do not connect CF1 & CF2 both at a same time in pulse-19 card.
• Do not short the TP9 & TP10 test point while verification of voltage.

Step 1:-Connections
1. Remove FRC cable from CF1 connector from pulse-19 card.
2. Remove Feedback connector coming from HV Tank/ Tube head at CP2 connector of
Pulse-19 card
3. Connect FRC cable coming from Feedback JIG at CF2 connector in pulse-19 card.
4. Connect Feedback connector of JIG in pulse-19 card CP2 connector.

• Switch ON the machine
• Check feedback signal in Pulse-19 card-
o CP2-3 w.r.t to body Ground) should be -1.90 VDC
o CP2-5 w.r.t to body Ground) should be +1.90 VDC
• If it is more/less then adjust the POT mounted in JIG.

1. After switching on the card only LD10& LD9 should glow without pressing ready &
exposure. If LD8 or LD1 are glowing then check the input signals of Pulse-19 card (Pre-
Rx & Com-Rx).
2. There should be no error indication in pulse-19 card & if error is coming then change the
IC (See the IC detail mentioned below) or change the Pulse-19 card.
3. If there is no error indication, then press ready & check PRE-Rx LD8 should glow. If
LD6 & LD7 are glowing at Ready time then change the IC (See the IC detail mentioned
below) or change the Pulse-19 card.
4. During exposure LD1 then LD6 &7 should glow.
ƒ If LD1 is glowing but LD6 & LD7 are not glowing then check the amplitude
of PRE-RX & COM-Rx, should be min 11VDC & 9V respectively & set KV
should be according to KV equation (1V=20KV).
ƒ After verifying Pre-RX & Com-RX signals still COM1 & COM2 LD6,7 are
not glowing then reduce the Feedback voltage (+ & - 1.90) from jig (Both
Positive & Negative to 0.10VDC) then check the signals again.

ƒ If still COM1 & COM2 signals are not coming change the IC (See the IC
detail mentioned below) or change the Pulse-19 card.
5. If LED sequence is ok then verify the COM1 & COM2 signals after selecting parameters
40Kvp (In case of HF x-ray or DR select 200mAS).

be normally 15VDC & during exposure 9VDC with multimeter. With CRO Should

6. If COM1 & COM2 signals level/ waveform is not ok then change the IC (See the IC
detail mentioned below) or change the Pulse-19 card.& If wave form is OK then Input

3. TP1:‐ Test point used for measuring Positive KV during exposure with respect to body ground
TP11. Voltage at this point represent the actual KV according to 1V=20KV (For Mammography it is
1V=10KV).

4. TP2:‐ Test point used for measuring Negative KV during exposure with respect to body
ground TP11. Voltage at this point represent the actual KV according to 1V=20KV (For
Mammography it is 1V=10KV).
5. TP11:‐ Test point used for connecting body ground used for measuring other signals.
6. POT‐P3:‐ Used for setting of “0”Level while checking the Flouro mA with CRO at TP5 & TP11
test points

7. TP9:‐ This test point is used for measuring COM1 signal with respect to Body ground (TP11).
Normally +15VDC & during exposure in pulses (20 KHz in case of 40Khz invertor) with variation in
ON/Off time with respect to Set KV signal.

8. TP10:‐ This test point is used for measuring COM2 signal with respect to Body ground (TP11).
Normally +15VDC & during exposure in pulses (20 KHz in case of 40Khz invertor) with variation in
ON/Off time with respect to Set KV signal.(COM1 & COM2 signals are opposite to each other)
9. IC U‐17 (NE555):‐ ICU17 pin 3 is used for measuring frequency of inverter with respect to
body ground (TP11).
10. POT‐P2:‐ Pot‐P2 is used for calibration of inverter frequency.

11. CF1 FRC CONNECTOR: ‐ 16Pin FRC cable is connected coming from Pulse‐18 com card.
12. IC U16 (TL082):‐ IC U16 pin 1&6 are used for measuring resistance for LD5 calibration. mA
limit increases with increase in resistance
13. POT‐R120:‐ Pot used for Calibration of resistance used LD5 calibration.
14. CF2 FRC CONNECTOR: 16Pin FRC male connector is used for connecting FRC cable from
testing zig for verification of Pulse‐19 card. (CF1 should be removed when CF2 is used)
15. CP1 Connector:‐ This connector is used for Supply input ,Signals Input & Outputs from & to
machines

17. CONNECTOR CP3:‐This connector is removed when mA or mAS meter is connected for
