Proposal for the Final Year Design Project
Title AutiCare: Speech and Behavior Development for Autistic Children at Home
3. Objectives
An intuitive and engaging user interface will be designed that is easy for users to navigate, encouraging
regular use and consistent practice.
A comprehensive set of digital speech development exercises will be developed, including breathing
exercises, oral muscle strengthening, tongue and mouth exercises, and facial expression activities, to
improve speech clarity and communication skills.
Functionality for tracking and visualizing a child’s progress over time will be incorporated, allowing
parents and therapists to monitor improvements regarding the child’s speech development.
A dedicated section with resources, guides, and tips for parents and therapists will be provided to support
the child’s development journey effectively.
Secure and reliable user authentication and authorization will be implemented to protect user data, ensuring
that parents and therapists can access sensitive information in a safe and controlled manner.

4. Scope 02/01/00
Today’s rapidly evolving technological landscape demands innovative tools to enable and empower those bound
by cognitive impairment. Early intervention is highly beneficial for children on the spectrum, but financial and
geographical barriers can hinder parents from providing their child with the professional care that they deserve.
AutiCare will be designed to overcome these barriers in the form of a comprehensive and interactive mobile
application tailor-made for the parents, guardians and teachers of autistic children, as well as simply children
struggling with speech delay, to provide them the tools and guidance needed to foster good communication
skills and sensible behavior so that they can initially help their child at home.
The proposed application will incorporate a variety of interactive activities and games designed to enhance
speech and communication skills of such children. The scope of the project includes the following key features:
The application will offer a range of carefully selected speech-related activities designed to improve
communication skills in autistic children, presented in a simple and interactive format that will allow
parents to easily guide their children through each exercise.
The app will include activities aimed at improving behavioral skills that parents can implement at home
to encourage positive behaviors and develop social skills in their children.
To keep children engaged and motivated, the application will feature interactive games that reinforce
speech and behavioral skills. These games will be designed to be fun and educational, ensuring that
children are learning while playing.
The app will provide clear, step-by-step instructions and demonstrations for each exercise, helping
parents understand how to effectively implement the interventions at home. This guidance will be
tailored for non-professional caregivers to ensure ease of use.
Parents will be able to track their child's progress over time, with the app offering insights and feedback
based on the completion of activities and exercises. This feature will help parents understand their child's
development and adjust practices as needed.
By leveraging the power of technology, this project seeks to make guidance more accessible and effective for
neurodivergent children, ultimately helping them improve their communication skills and enhance their quality
of life.
5. Proposed Methodology
The project will follow an agile and incremental approach to ensure continuous feedback and iterative
improvements.
Initial research will be conducted to understand the specific needs and challenges in speech delay for
autistic children, including effective exercises and activities.
Design mockups will be finalized, and the architecture of the mobile app and backend systems will be
defined.
A mobile app will be developed using React Native to provide a user-friendly interface for speech-
related exercises and activities tailored to autistic children.
The backend will be developed using Django to handle user authentication, data management and server-
side processing.
A PostgreSQL database will be set up to store user data, session logs, and progress tracking.
Digital implementations of various speech development exercises, such as breathing, oral muscle
strengthening, and tongue exercises, will be developed and integrated into the app.
Different activities and interactive games will be implemented and integrated into the app.
Frontend components will be integrated with backend APIs to ensure seamless data flow and proper state
management across the application.
Unit testing will be performed on individual components, and end-to-end testing will be conducted to
ensure the app functions correctly as a whole.
