a) 1024 b) 1023 c) 2048 d) 2043.
2. The simplest value of Cos (−1170∘) is

4. If θ lies in the fourth quadrant and tan θ = , then the value of cos θ is
3

a) b) c) d)
√10 √10 √10 √𝟏𝟎

Group B
Answer all the following questions: (4× 𝟐 = 𝟖)
5. If (a, b) and (b, c) are two elements of A × A, find the elements of A × A, if
the number of elements of A × A is 9.
Ans : A = {a, b, c},
A × A = {(a, a), (a, b), (a, c), (b, a), (b, b), (b, c), (c, a), (c, b), (c, c)}
6. Is the equation 2sin2 x – cosx + 4 = 0 has any solution? justify.
Ans: 2cos 2 x + cosx - 6 = 0
3
=> cos = or -2, both of which are impossible as -1 ≤ cos x ≤ 1, not possible.
2

7. State with reason which is greater: tan 1 or tan 4.

Ans: tan 4 = tan {π +(4-π)} = tan (4 - π) = tan (0.86)
Since, 1 > 0.86
tan 1 > tan 4
8. If A + B = 225∘ , prove that tanA + tanB + tanAtanB = 1.
Ans: tan (A + B) = tan 225∘ = tan45∘
Or, tan (A + B) = 1
tanA+tanB
Or, =1
1−tanAtanB
Or, tan A + tan B + tan A tan B = 1
Group C
Answer all the following questions: (2× 𝟒 = 𝟖)
9. For any three sets A, B, C prove that A ∩ (B ∩ C) = (A ∩ B) ∩ C
Ans: Associative property (use Venn diagram or otherwise)
10. If A + B + C = π and cos A = cos B cos C, show that, tan B tan C = 2

Ans: A + B + C = π

Therefore, B + C = π - A

⇒ cos (B + C) = cos (π - A)

⇒ cos B cos C - sin B sin C = - cos A

⇒ cos B cos C + cos B cos C = sin B sin C, [Since we know, cos A = cos B cos C]

⇒ 2 cos B cos C = sin B sin C ⇒ tan B tan C = 2

Group A
Answer all the following questions: (4× 𝟏 = 𝟒)
Choose the correct option from each of the following:
1. Cardinality of the power set of Ø
a) 0 b) 1 c) 2 d) none of these.
2. The simplest value of Sec (−945∘ ) is

a) √2 b) - √𝟐 c) 2 d) -2.
3. If Sin A + Sin B = 2, then the value of Sin (A + B) is
a) 2 b) 0 c) 1 d) -1.
7θ 5θ
4. 2 Sin Sin is equal to
2 2

a) Sin6θ - Sinθ b) Cos6θ - Cosθ c) Cos𝛉 - Cos6𝛉 d) Cos6θ + Cosθ

Group B
Answer all the following questions: (4× 𝟐 = 𝟖)
5. Two sets A and B are having 99 elements in common. Find the number of
elements common to both A × B and B × A, stating the reason.
Ans : n(A∩ B) = 99
n ((A × B) ∩ (B × A))
= n (A∩ B) × n(B ∩ A)
= 992
6. Find the maximum and minimum values of 3 sin2 x - 2cos 2 x + 9
Ans : 3 sin2 x - 2cos 2 x + 9
= 5 sin2 x + 7
Now -1 ≤ sin x ≤ 1
= 0 ≤ Sin2 x ≤ 1
= 7 ≤ 5Sin2 x + 7 ≤ 12.
Maximum = 12, Minimum = 7
7. State with reason which is greater: sin 1 or sin 2.
Ans : sin 2 = sin {π- (π-2)} = sin (π-2) = sin (1.14)
Since, 1.14 > 1
Sin (1.14)> sin1
Sin2 > sin1

8. Prove that Sin55∘ - Cos55∘ = √2 Sin10∘

Ans : Sin55∘ - Cos55∘
= Sin55∘ - Sin35∘
= 2Cos45∘ Sin10∘

= √2 Sin10∘
Group C
Answer all the following questions: (2× 𝟒 = 𝟖)
9. For any three sets A, B, C prove that A ∪ (B ∪ C) = (A ∪ B) ∪ C
Ans : Associative property (using Venn diagram or otherwise) -------- (4)
10. An angle θ is divided into two parts so that the ratio of the tangents of the
k−1
parts is k; if the difference between the parts be ф, prove that, sin ф = sin θ
k+1

Ans : Let, α and β be the two parts of the angle θ.

Therefore, θ = α + β.

By question, θ = α - β. (assuming α > β)

tan 𝛼
and =k
tan 𝛽

sin 𝛼 cos 𝛽 𝑘
⇒ =
sin 𝛽 cos 𝛼 1

sin α cos β + cos α sin β k+1

⇒ = , [by componendo and dividendo]
sin α cos β − cos α sin β k−1

sin (α + β) k+1
⇒ =
sin (α − β) k−1

⇒ (k + 1) sin Ø = (k - 1) sin θ, [Since we know that α + β = θ; α + β = ф]

k−1
⇒ sin ф = sin θ.

Group B
Answer all the following questions: (4× 𝟐 = 𝟖)
5. Let A = {a: a ϵ N and -2 ≤ a ≤ 3} and B = {b: 0≤ b ≤ 2} . Find A × B.

A × B = {(1,1), (1,2), (2,1), (2,2), (3,1), (3,2)}

8. State with reason which is greater: cos 1 or cos 5.
Cos 5 = cos {2π –(2π-5)} = cos(2π-5) = cos (1.28) < cos 1
Group C
Answer all the following questions: (2× 𝟒 = 𝟖)
9. For any three sets A, B, C prove that A ∩ (B ∪ C) = (A ∩ B) ∪ (A ∩ C)
Ans : Use Venn diagram or otherwise

10. If cos (x - y) + cos (y - z) + cos (z - x) = , then find the value of sin x +

sin y + sin z.
Ans : We know cos (A-B) = cos A cos B + sin A sin B

2

⇒ 2 cos x cos y + 2 sin x sin y + 2 cos y cos z + 2 sin y sin z + 2 cos z cos x + 2 sin
z sin x = -3

⇒ 2 cos x cos y + 2 sin x sin y + 2 cos y cos z + 2 sin y sin z + 2 cos z cos x + 2 sin
z sin x + 3 = 0

⇒ 2 cos x cos y + 2 sin x sin y + 1 + 2 cos y cos z + 2 sin y sin z + 1 + 2 cos z cos x
+ 2 sin z sin x + 1 = 0

Instead of 1, put sin2x + cos2x, sin 2y + cos2y, and sin2z + cos2z.

⇒ 2 cos x cos y + 2 sin x sin y + sin2x + cos2x + 2 cos y cos z + 2 sin y sin z + sin 2y
+ cos2y + 2 cos z cos x + 2 sin z sin x + sin2z + cos2z = 0

⇒ (sin x + sin y + sin z)2 + (cos x + cos y + cos z)2 = 0

Sum of perfect squares = 0 implies both quantities will be zero.

⇒ sin x + sin y + sin z = 0
