Grading of assignment
This assignment contributes towards 20% of your final grade for the course. See the last page
of this document for the detailed breakdown of how this assignment will be graded.

Instructions for assignment

In this assignment, we will utilize the ecological footprint (EF) data collected in Lab 2 to
examine patterns in resource usage among Lingnan students. We will also estimate the amount
of biologically productive areas on Earth needed to sustain our demands. Through this
assignment, you will showcase your analytical skills by analyzing and presenting data, as well
as effectively communicating your findings and interpretations through written explanations
and graphs (Graphs - Lab 5 & 6). Furthermore, based on your findings, you will be expected
to provide recommendations on how to transition towards a more sustainable lifestyle (Lab 3).

In this assignment, you will analyze the ecological footprint (EF) data of your class and provide
recommendations for a more sustainable lifestyle. Follow the steps below to complete the task:

1. Access the Class Data

Download the class EF data from Moodle. You can find it under the SDG assignment section
in Written Assignments.

2. Analyze the Data

Use your judgment to analyze the class data in a way that interests you. For example, you
might identify which activity contributes the most to the EF of Lingnan students, compare
water usage between students living in hostels and those living at home, or explore the
relationship between EF and food choices, etc. Your analysis should demonstrate your
understanding of different types of variables (e.g., categorical vs. quantifiable) and how to use
basic descriptive statistics.
3. Present Your Findings
Present your findings in a clear and organized way. Summarize your results in a table or
within the main text of your assignment, and create two different types of graphs (e.g., bar
chart, scatter plot, etc.) to visually represent your findings. Be sure to include explanations of
what the graphs show and why the results are important.

4. Discuss Implications and Provide Recommendations

Discuss the broader implications of your findings and consider how they compare to data from
other universities/regions. What insights do these results provide about our current lifestyle and
its environmental impact? Based on your analysis, offer practical recommendations for
transitioning to a more sustainable lifestyle. Ensure your interpretations and
recommendations are well-supported by relevant literature, and always cite your sources
appropriately (In text citation + reference list) and avoid plagiarism.

Tips for Success:

• Keep your analysis focused and clear.
• Use graphs to make your findings visually engaging and easy to understand.
• Back up your recommendations with evidence from credible sources.
