In Part 1, there are 7 questions corresponding to 7 monologues about familiar topics in
daily life related to areas such as public, personal, educational, or professional situations. For
each question, you will hear one monologue TWICE. While you listen, choose the right answer
A, B, or C.

III. STRATEGIES
Step 1: Read the questions and options carefully
- There will be some time for test takers to look at the questions. Make sure you
skim through all 7 questions before the recording starts playing.
- You can also take advantage of the time when instructions are given to skim the
questions.
Step 2: Underline key words
- The questions in Part 1 are usually not long, but make sure you grasp the key
words to correctly understand the meaning of the questions and focus better when
listening.
- Identifying key words also helps test takers predict the content of the monologue.
Example:
Which meal is NOT included in the price of the holiday?
A. Breakfast B. Lunch
C. Dinner D. All
Step 3: Listen and choose the correct answer
- While listening, focus on the key words to identify the correct answer.
- There might be misleading information in some of the questions. Listen carefully
to eliminate trap answers and choose the correct one.
Step 4: Listen again
Test takers can listen to each question twice in this section, so do not panic if you
miss the answer in the first try. Listen again and focus on the words you have previously
missed.
