Importance of computers

Almost a century ago, a spate of inventions ushered in the first industrial revolution. Within a
short span of time, many countries became industrialized. Now, we are in the beginning of
another industrial revolution. The major cause of the second revolution is the invention of
computers. Man has invented many electronic devices but the computer has made a greater
impact on society than any other single device. They have made a potentially significant
contribution to the society during the last three decades.
The spate of innovations and inventions in computer technology during the last decade has led to
the development of micro and personal computers. They are so versatile that they have become
indispensable to engineers, scientists, business executives, managers, administrators, accountants,
teachers and students. They have strengthened man's powers in numerical computations and
information processing and thereby increased the effectiveness of organizations.
Modern computers possess certain characteristics and abilities peculiar to them. They can:
1. Perform complex and repetitive calculations rapidly and accurately.
2. Store large amounts of data and information for subsequent manipulation.
3. Hold a program of a model which can be explored in many different ways.
4. Assist in making decisions.
5. Provide information to the user.
6. Automatically correct and modify.
7. Draw and print graphs.
8. "Converse" with users through terminals.
Required:
i. Prepare a l0 slide presentation on the importance of computers. Your presentation should
include use of Clip Art to represent these areas of application (insert appropriate clip art where
necessary). (15 marks)
ii. Add appropriate headers and footers to all the slides. (3 Marks)

iii. Insert your name and other identification details on the first page of your slide.(2 Marks)
iv. Add transitions between slides (5 Marks)
v. Apply entrance and exit animation effects to bullets of text (5 Marks)

QUESTION 4: Ms. Word (10 Marks)


Open a New Blank Word document and type the following letter as show below, Save As Jane Doe and
make it a read only document.

b). The letter you have typed has many mistakes. Some of the words are underlined with Red or Green
lines. These lines are only there to help you when you are typing, they will not appear on the paper
when you print your document. Give the meaning of the Underlines.
c). Copy the letter and paste it on Page two of the same document and make the following changes.
 Highlight the top name and address. Change the address font to Arial and the font size to 14.
Make it Bold. Then Align the address to center.
 Highlight the date and align right .
 Use the Enter key to make spaces between the lines as required in a formal letter.
 Change the font of all the text below the top address and set font size to Arial 12pt.
d). Underline the words May 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th.
