Activity Guide and Evaluation Rubric – Task 2 - Analog didactic language materials.

1. Activity Description

Type of Activity: Collaborative

Evaluation Moment: Intermediate Unit 1
Highest Activity Score: 175 points
The activity starts on: Monday, The activity ends on: Sunday, March 30,
February 17, 2025 2025
With this activity, you are expected to achieve the following learning
outcomes:

To reflect on the role of a material designer in language education, integrating

theories for the design of analog teaching materials in English for face-to-face
learning environments.
The activity consists of:

Individually:

1. Watch the VLO you find in the references from unit one called “Designing English
language teaching materials”, there you have to develop the pre-activity and
learning activities proposed in the VLO. Make sure you save screenshots from the
development of the activities proposed in the VLO.

2. Read the following documents proposed in the contents of unit 1, that are related
to the creation of materials based on communicative skills:

• Developing Reading Materials for ESL Learners.

• Material for Teaching Writing.
• Some Guidelines for Developing Listening Materials.
• Materials to Develop Speaking Skill.

3. Based on these texts, answer the questions below:

a) How can teachers develop reading materials that are sensitive to the cultural
backgrounds of their learners?
b) How can teachers use technology to support the development of writing skills?

1
c) What are the future challenges and opportunities for the development of writing
materials?
d) How can teachers evaluate the effectiveness of their listening materials?
e) How can teachers prepare learners for the future challenges of speaking in a
globalized world?

4. Do not forget to include in-text citations and references when responding to the
questions, and remember the use of AI is prohibited.

5. In the collaborative forum, each group member should choose one question to
respond to. Whether working individually or collaboratively, ensure that all
questions are answered by the group. In your final submission, include only one
response per question, representing the group’s collective input, with all questions
answered. The group will compile and submit the final responses together.

Collaborative work:

1. As a group, refer to the suggestions provided in the readings on creating

language learning materials. Using the template named "Annex 1 Workshop"
located in the same folder as this guide to design an analog workshop.

2. In the provided template, your group will design five activities aimed at
practicing language learners' communicative skills specifically for face-to-face
environments.

Please, follow these steps:

a) In the group, choose one of the communicative topics proposed in the

following list and post your selection in the collaborative forum:

Communicative topics:

• Economy and finances

• Weird customs around the world
• Renewable energy

b) Download the workshop template and include your names, the chosen
communicative topic, and a corresponding objective that aligns with it.
Design five activities as follows:

• Language in Use section: Design exercises allowing students to practice

grammar related to the chosen topic. Ensure this section provides at least 15
minutes of practice time. Include exercises such as filling in the blanks, error

2
correction, gap-filling, sentence order, verb conjugation, matching, and
multiple choice.

• Listening section: Create a listening activity at least 5 exercises. Ensure that

combined with other exercises, this section provides at least 15 minutes of
practice time. Use resources such as a song, a short movie clip, or a TV
advertisement.

• Reading section: Develop a reading activity that provides at least 30 minutes

of practice time. Include tasks such as reading comprehension questions, true
or false questions, and matching exercises related to the topic.

• Writing section: Design a writing activity that provides at least 30 minutes of

practice time. Incorporate tasks such as completing texts, rewriting sentences,
or unscrambling sentences.

• Speaking section: Plan a speaking activity to encourage students to freely

use the language for at least 15 minutes, including dialogues, simulations, or
interviews.

Note: You cannot take or adapt the activities from other authors. You can use
authentic or non-authentic materials to create your own ones.

c) Enhance your activities with images, visuals, and other engaging materials to
captivate student interest.

d) Ensure all instructions are clear and concise for students. Include APA style
references where necessary within the workshop.

e) Share your completed workshop in the collaborative environment at least two

weeks before the due date to receive feedback from the tutor.

3. The final group product will be a PDF document that includes the following
sections:

a. Cover Page: Include the names of all members who actively participated
in designing the workshop.

b. Condensed Answers to Reading Questions: Provide a concise and final

version of the answers to the questions from the readings. Use the
collaborative forum to discuss and agree on the most comprehensive
answers to include in this section.

3
c. Designed Analog Workshop: Include the final version of the analog
workshop that your group has designed.

d. Individual Evidence: Provide evidence for each student of their

development of the VLO, including decisions made and contributions to the
creation of the workshop. This should be documented in the collaborative
forum and in this final document.

4. This document must be submitted in the monitoring and evaluation environment

by the group’s submitter.

Note: Have in mind this activity is going to be checked by Turnitin the university tool
to avoid plagiarism, then you should reference the author, write in-text citations, and
paraphrase. See APA 07th edition to check how to do the in-text citations.

For the development of the activity consider that:

In the Initial Information Environment, you must: observe the course presentation,
check the course agenda, and the date of the synchronous meetings by
webconferences, and attention through Skype.

In the Learning Environment, you must: have access to the course syllabus, download
the guide, and check the links of the documents you have to consider for the
development of the activity.

In the Evaluation Environment, you must: Submit the final document, which meets
the requirements of the guide.

Evidence of individual work:

The individual evidence to be submitted is:

● Evidence of the VLO development.

● The answers to the questions proposed based on the readings.

Evidence of collaborative work:

The collaborative evidence to be submitted is:

● A document with a cover page considering APA style format.

● A condensed last version of the answers from the group.
● The workshops including the activities designed.
● Evidence from the collaborative work done.

4
2. General Guidelines for the Development of Evidence to Submit

For Collaborative evidence, consider the following:

● All members of the group must participate with their contributions to the
development of the activity.

● In each group, a single member will be chosen to submit the requested product
in the environment indicated by the teacher.

● Before submitting the requested product, students should check that it meets all
the requirements mentioned in this activity guide.

● Only the members of the group that participated with contributions during the
time assigned for the activity should be included as authors of the submitted
product.

Please keep in mind that all individual or collaborative written products must comply
with the spelling rules and presentation conditions that have been defined.
Regarding the use of references, consider that the product of this activity must meet
the APA Format Guide.
In any case, make sure you comply with the rules and avoid academic plagiarism.
You can review your written products using the Turnitin tool found on the virtual
campus.

Under the Academic Code of Conduct, the actions that infringe the academic order,
among others, are the following: paragraph e) Plagiarism is to present as your work
all or part of a written report, task or document of invention carried out by another
person. It also implies the use of citations or lack of references, or it includes
citations where there is no match between these and the reference and paragraph f)
To reproduce, or copy for profit, educational resources or results of research
products, which have rights reserved for the University. (Acuerdo 029 - 13 de
diciembre de 2013, artículo 99)

Turnitin also includes the use of AI or artificial intelligence in the products. If the
student or group is reported in the Turnitin report with a similarity of more than
16%, whether due to plagiarism or the use of AI, the case will be reviewed to apply
the corresponding university regulations.

The academic penalties students will face are:

a) In case of academic fraud demonstrated in the academic work or evaluation, the

score obtained will be zero (0.0) without any disciplinary measures being derived.

5
b) In case of proven plagiarism in academic work of any nature, the score obtained
will be zero (0.0), without any disciplinary measures being derived.
