Micro-Teaching Session/Lesson Plan Template

1. Lesson Plan Information

Topic: Algebraic Equation Length of Lesson: 15 minutes
Number of students: 5

2. Objective
Why are we learning this?
1. To know the terms related to algebraic equations.
2. To understand the relevance of algebraic equations to real life situations.
3. To learn how to solve algebraic equation.
Learning Outcome: What will the students be able to do/know by the end of this lesson?
At the end of the lesson the student/s can:
1. Define key terms related to algebraic equations.
2. Appreciate the importance and usefulness of algebra equations in solving real-world problems.
3. Solve algebraic equation using bar method.

3. Minds On
How will I focus my students’ attention? (Motivation, Pre-assessment, or Introductory activities.)
• Give a short activity in solving simple math equation.
• Picture will be shown to the student/s and identify the unknown.
• Students will be asked about the activity and what they already know about the topic.

Duration: 3 minutes

4. Action
A. Learner engagement and participation.
• How will you engage your students with your topic?
Skill: Illustrating with Examples
Using the skills of illustrating with example, the teacher engage students by giving a visual representation
like diagrams to illustrate the concepts of equations and how to solve equations.

• What participation did they have in your discussion?

During the discussion, the teacher will let the students actively participate by writing their answers in their
notebooks and solving problems or sharing their responses on the board.

• Discussion proper

What is variable?
- it is a symbol or letter to represent the unknown value.
- example:
4x=3, the "x" is the variable
a + 3 = 20, the "a" is the variable
What is equation?
- a mathematical statement that asserts the equality of two expressions and it uses an equals sign (=).
- example:
2x + 3 = 1
5x = 10
What is algebraic equation?
- is a mathematical statement that indicates that two algebraic expressions are equal.
- example:
2x + 2 = 12, where x = 5.
x + x = 2, where x = 1.
5a + 10 = 15, where a = 1.

Solving Algebraic Equation using Bar Method

Examples:
Examples:

Scenario: Your brother is 3 years older than you. If your brother is 10 years old, how old are you?

Step 1: Define Variables

Let x represent your age
Let y represent your brother age

Step 2: Translate the problem into equation.

y=x+3

Step 3: Substitute
10 = x + 3

Step 4: 10 = x + 3
10 – 3 = x + 3 – 3 ( subtracting 3 both sides)

Step 5: 7 = x

Scenario: Apples cost ₱2 each. You buy some apples and spend ₱10. How many apples did you buy?

Step 1: Define Variables

Let x be the number of apples you bought.

Step 2: Translate the problem into equation.

2x = 10

Step 3: Solve for x.

2x = 10
2𝑥 10
= 2 (Divide both side by 2)
2

Step 4: x = 5

Duration: 7 minutes
B. Resources/Materials
• Textbook (Oronce, O. A., & Mendoza, M. O. (2010). E-math: Worktext in mathematics. Manila, Philippines)
• Paper
• Mobile Device (picture)
• Television
• Cartolina
• Manila paper
• Worksheet

5. Assessment and Feedback

How will I know students have learned what I intended? How will they know?
• Short activity about solving algebraic equations using bar method will be given to students.

ACITIVITY:

PART 1
Direction: Answer the following equation. Find the value of the unknown using bar method.

1. 5 + x = 10
2. 2x + 10 = 30
3. 2x – 5 = 13
4. 2x + 12 = 28
5. 3x – 4 = 2x + 5
PART 2
Direction: Solve the given algebraic equation word problem by using the bar method.
1. If the entrance fee ticket in a park costs 15 pesos each, how many tickets do I have if I pay 120
pesos??
2. Jess has 4 black t-shirt. She has 3 times as many white as black t-shirts. How many t-shirt does she
have in all?

Duration: 5 minutes

6. Consolidate and Debrief

How will I bring all the important ideas from the learning experiences together for/with the students? How
will I check for understanding?

Conclusion: How will I conclude the lesson?
