2. Differentiate the terms approach, method and technique.
3. Identify and understand the learner centered approach, learner
centered methods and learner centered techniques.

A. Motivation

Crossword Puzzle - A crossword is a word puzzle that usually takes the

form of a square or a rectangular grid of white- and black-shaded squares.
The game's goal is to fill the white squares with letters, forming words or
phrases, by solving clues, which lead to the answers.

B. Lesson
Learner centered approach is about shifting the focus of instruction
from the instructor to the learner. This shift offers the best experience for the
learner because it has them engage with the instructor, the content and the
other learners. The constant engagement helps the learner develop a deeper
understanding of the material presented. There are a variety of teaching
methods that can be implemented into the learning event including small
group work, classroom discussion, projects, presentations, games, debates,
role-play case study, and Simulations.

Learner Centered Example:

Inquiry Approach, Problem-solving, Approach, make decisions, work as

a team member, evaluate evidence, analyze arguments, and generate ideas.
Benefits a learner centered approach engage the participant in the learning
process and encourage them to reflect on what they’re learning and how they
are learning it also helps them develop life skills. The approach helps students
learn how to think, solve problems, make decisions, rate as a team member
evaluates evidence, analyze arguments and generate ideas.

Learner-centered methods have repeatedly been shown to be

superior to the traditional teacher-centered approach to instruction, a
conclusion that applies whether the assessed outcome is short-term mastery,
long-term retention, or depth of understanding of course material, acquisition
of critical thinking or creative problem-solving skills, formation of positive
attitudes toward the subject being taught, or level of self-confidence in
knowledge and skills.

These methods include:

Active learning, in which students solve problems, answer questions,

formulate questions of their own, discuss, explain, debate, or brainstorm
during class. Cooperative learning in which students work in teams on
problems and projects under conditions that assure both positive
interdependence and individual accountability. Inductive teaching and
learning, in which students are first presented with challenges. Inductive
methods include inquiry-based learning, case-based instruction, problem-
based learning, project-based learning, discovery learning, and just-in-time
teaching.

Learner-centered Techniques

The specific activities manifested in the classroom that are consistent

with a method and therefore in harmony with an approach as well. Also,
technique is the specific activities teacher used in every step of method.

Learner-centered Techniques Example:

Summary

Learner-centered teaching is an approach that places the learner at

the center of learning. Also it engages the participant in the learning process
and encourages them to reflect on what they are learning and how they are
learning it. Learner-centered methods have been shown superior to the
traditional teacher-centered approach to instruction. Inductive methods
include inquiry-based learning and case-based instruction. Students solve
problems, formulate questions of their own, discuss, explain, debate, or
brainstorm during class. Learner-Centered Techniques are defined by a
shift from a teacher or lecturer focused classroom environment to one that is
focused on the needs of the students. Learning is an active search for
meaning by the learner and constructed rather than passively received
