Chapter 1
1.1 Introduction
The Internet has become a basic need of the current generation. These days, most
of the world’s population uses the Internet regularly. Also, more people are becoming
addicted to social media with each passing day-Social media platforms such as
Facebook, Instagram, and Tiktok have become Integral to the daily live of adolescent.
This raises question social media platform are often used of a student, it can also lead to
know how many hour a student spend on different social media platform.
The paper reviews and compares carbon. Emission calculation methods for
popular online services TikTok, Facebook, Netflix, and YouTube. It reveals that daily
video streaming usage is 51 times more than 14 hours of an airplane ride, with Netflix
generating the highest CO2 emissions due to its high-resolution video delivery and user
base. The study aims to publicize the environmental impact of our daily internet
The paper analyzes on social media usage among 2002 U.S. respondents,
focusing on Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, YouTube, and Twitter. Results show that
people with high household incomes and education use social media the most. As age
increases, social media use decreases, while higher household income increases usage.
Understanding user frequency can provide a competitive advantage, improving brand
awareness, customer satisfaction, quality, reach, and profit ( Jan Hruska, Petra Maresova,
2020).
A Pew Research Center survey shows Facebook Is no longer the most popular
online platform among US teens aged 13-17, with 51% using it. This shift is due to the
evolution of technology, with 95% of teens owning a smartphone or accessing one, and
45% of teens being online on a near-constant basis ( Monica Anderson, Jingjing Jiang,
2018).
So this study aims to contribute to the existing body of knowledge by identifying the
most popular social media platform among senior high school students. Understanding
this can provide insight into different preferences of a student when it comes into social
platform, and how many hours they spent on it. The researcher will employ a descriptive
research design to examine the different preferences on social media platform and hour
usage of a senior high school students. This approach allows us to explore the extent to
The researchers aims to determine the most used social media platform of a student and
number of hours spent on social media. Figure 1, show the researchers plan on how to achieve
their goal. The researcher will conduct a survey to identify the most used social media platform.
This will help to identify the most used social media platform of a student.
The researcher will use survey questionnaire to get the needed information so that the
This study aims to investigate the specific relationship between social media use
and mood in senior high school students, exploring factors such as:
Student. By understanding the platform usage it can provide insight into how social
media might influence students learning experience. This could lead to strategies for more
effective on addressing potential negative impact.
Parents. This study will be helpful to reduce or limit the social media usage of their
children. It can also help them to study their children preferred platform to know if it has a bad
effect.
Future researcher. This study can give significant and impactful information that can
help the future researcher to start and create their research.
This study focuses on identifying the most used social media platform among
senior high school students within talacogon national high school. The researcher will utilize on
survey questionnaire to gather data in platform usage frequency, duration and preferred features.
The analysis will concentrate on the most popular platform comparing usage patterns.
However, the study will only investigate the most commonly used platforms, potentially
overloading social media platforms or emerging trends in social media usage. The selection of
platforms will be based on preliminary research and may not encounter all relevant platforms.
Social media platforms- the online services that allows users to create public profiles
interact with each other, and share content, text, photos, and ideas. They often wide range of
CHAPTER 2
The advent of easily accessible technology, e-commerce, online streaming, and social
networking platforms has led to massive amounts of data being stored and processed every
second. The IT infrastructures needed to support this digital age consume a large amount of
energy and have a negative impact on the environment. There have been several different efforts
to estimate the carbon footprint of the internet, but there is no proven exact method for it.
Therefore, the goals of this paper are, first-to critically review the carbon emission calculation
methods and compare the results, and second-to publicize the environmental impact of our daily
simple habit of Internet usage. We calculated the carbon footprint of the most popular four online
services (TikTok, Facebook, Netflix, and YouTube) by using top-cited methods such those from
Bringers, the Shift Project, Andrae, and Hintemann and Hinterholze. When comparing the
emitted carbon dioxide, the weighted average of online video streaming usage per day is 51
times more than 14 h of an airplane ride. Netflix generates the highest CO2 emissions among the
four applications due to its high-resolution video delivery and its number of users ( Altanshagai
Batmonkh, 2022).
Until recently, Facebook had dominated the social media landscape among America’s
youth-but it is no longer the most popular online platform among teens, according to a new Pew
Research Center survey. Today, roughly half (51%) of US teens ages 13 to 17 say they use
Facebook, notably lower than the shares who use YouTube, Instagram or Snapchat.
This shift in teens’ social media use is just one example of how the technology landscape
for young people has evolved since the Center’s last survey of teens and technology use in 2014-
2015. Most notably, smartphone ownership has become a nearly ubiquitous element of teen life:
95% of teens now report they have a smartphone or access to one. These mobile connections are
in turn fueling more-persistent online activities: 45% of teens now say they are online on a near-
This study investigated the differences in usage of different social media platforms within
the South African context, broken down by user characteristics, specifically gender and age, in
addition to investigating the correlation between usage of differing social media platforms. This
was carried out to determine which social media needs do the different population groups aim to
fulfill when using different social media platforms. Based on the results, the study confirmed the
existence of preferences between types of social media platforms and groups of social media
platforms in South Africa, based on frequency of use by age group and gender. Social media can
thus be seen as a useful tool for collaboration and sharing knowledge to users in a South African
context but must be tailored for specific audience needs.( Adheesh Budree, 2018)
Social media has evolved over the last decade to become an important driver for
acquiring and spreading information in different domains such as business, entertainment, crisis
management, and politics. The increasing popularity of social media raises a number of
questions regarding why we use it so much and what aspects influence this activity. What about
gender? What about education, income, age or social status? This paper answers some of these
questions using statistical analyses and by dividing overall social media use into selected social
media, i.e., Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, YouTube, and Twitter. The analysis used a dataset
that contains information related to 2002 respondents from the U.S. and their social media
activity. The results show that people with high household incomes and high education use social
media the most. As age increases, social media use decreases, while bigger household income
means that social media are used more. Overall, understanding where and at what frequency
users are on social media can be a key competitive advantage. When using social networks
correctly for marketing, companies can significantly improve their brand awareness, customer

3.1Research Design
This study uses a descriptive research design to identify the most used social media
platform. A cross-sectional survey approach will be used to determine which is the most used
social media platform, as well as the number of hour they spent on those platform.. This method
will be used because It allows for the analysis of numerical data collected from participants and
provides insights into patterns and relationship. Social media, the independent variable, includes
platforms commonly used by senior high school students, such as Facebook, Instagram, TikTok.
Popularity, the dependent variable, refers to the temporary choice of a students, which can be
The participants of this study are senior high school students from talacogon national
high school. These students were chosen as they are at a developmental stage where social media
usage is prevalent.
