RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

A. RESEARCH DESIGN

The researcher conducted qualitative research specifically case study research

design. Qualitative research design is concerned to gain a deep understanding of the

experiences of LGBTQ+ students. Social reality is constructed through the meanings

and interpretations that individuals assign to their experiences (Berger and Luckmann).

The study specifically employed case study research as a way of exploring the

health care experiences and barriers to care of LGBTQ individuals reported that the

LGBTQ community has unique health concerns and is at higher risk for mental health

conditions, substance use, and suicide (Lee and Kanji’s 2017).

In this research, the experiences of students were explored as to what they

experience of being part of LGBTQ+ and how they cope up and manage to continue

despite of bullying, discrimination and the social acceptance.

B. SAMPLING TECHNIQUE

The participants of the study are the Grade 11 students which were obtained

purposively from each strand namely Science and Technology Engineering and

Mathematics (STEM), . Purposive sampling was used to determine the participants of

the study. Grade 11 students were used as the participants because they experience a

change in their behavior from being discriminate, bully and don’t have a support from

other people.
Primary data was obtained from the responses through interview and survey

using the semi-structured questionnaire.

C. DATA COLLECTION

In this case, researcher will be promoted the permission to the principal and the

subject teacher to conduct this research. The identity of this study be given to a

participants by a consent of a letter and the consideration related to this issue such as

confidentiality protected by a researchers.

The questionnaire that composed of 5 questions is highlighted to gain the better

understanding and composing analysis regardless by their gender, and their

experiences. To make it clear the particular consideration may involve the testimony or

well-founded concerns in their critical stage. Under of this construct the validation of this

study is underwent from the professional people in the field. Furthermore, the interview

was guided in the questionnaire that actually proceed to their interest. This study was

conducted in Grade 11 Students at San Mariano National High School that distributed

social interaction like face-to-face.

Their responses in the interview was classified their naunced understanding,

providing their thoughts on the certain issue, and classified thier transcribe that can be

bases in the study. Statistics analysis is structure of something such as: Investigation,

review, evaluation, interpretation, survey, and study that can be used in this research to

identity which part we considered as a support to categories the interpretation and other

relevant information and the strategies of this study.


D. ETHICAL ISSUES

Ethical Issues have a huge role in a qualitative study due to the in-depth nature

of the study process. The concern of ethical issues becomes more silent when

conducting face to face interview with vulnerable group of participants. They may

potentially become emotional while expressing their feelings during interview

sessions.

The aims of this paper is to present our own experience of conducting face to

face interview on the Grade 11 LGBTQ+ students at San Mariano National High

School. There are five important ethical issues considered in this study, and these

are discuss below :

•Informed Consent

The process of obtaining consent from the participants. It includes the following: the

consent should be given voluntarily and the participants must know what is being

asked of them. This means that the participants need to be adequate informed

about the research, comprehend the information and have the power of freedom to

choose whether to participate in the study or decline. Participants agreement to

participation in this study was obtain only after a thorough explanation of the

research process.
All participants were required to provide written informed consent. The potential

participants was approach personally and given an explanation about the purpose of

the study. They were given enough time to ask questions and address any

concerns. It was explained that as their participation was voluntarily, withdrawing

from the study while it was in progress would not affect their care or reputation in

any way.

It was explained that the participants involvement in the study would not affect

their reputation in any way. It is also explained that they are allow to withdraw during

the study at anytime, even if the consent was already been signed.

•Anonymity and Confidentiality

The anonymity and confidentiality of the participants are keep confidentially by not

revealing their names and identity in the data collection, analysis and reporting of

the study findings. Privacy and confidentiality of the research environment was also

managed carefully during the interview session, data analysis and interpretation of

the findings.

•Objectivity

Objectivity during the study is carefully observed. Avoiding bias in the study is what

every researcher keep in mind, any emotion’s or personal perspective was avoided

during the process of the study.

•Non – Discrimination
Discrimination against the participants in the basis of their sex, race, ethnicity, or

others factors that are not related to their scientific competence and integrity was

carefully avoided by the researcher’s.

•Integrity

The answer by the potential participants during the interview was keep confidentially

by keeping our promises and agreements while we are in the process of the study

analysis and interpretation. As a researcher, we’ve done our research with sincerity

and we strive for the consistence of thoughts and actions during the agreement. All

of the researcher keep the promises that have been agreed between the potential

participants and the researcher.
