GOMBURZA

As I finished watching “GOMBURZA”, I found myself really moved by the historical


story that unfolded in front of me. It takes us back to a pretty intense time in Philippine history,
displaying the terrible grip of Spanish colonial rule, along with the rise of Filipino nationalism. It
shines a light on the secularization movement led by local priests. For me, the film did an
amazing job of showing the struggles of Mariano Gómez, José Burgos, and Jacinto Zamora,
three Filipino priests who stood up against Spanish colonial rule. This move was all about
fighting for equality and self-determination. The unfair trial and execution of the three priests
really shows how colonial authorities abused their power, using them as scapegoats to stifle the
growing cries for independence after the Cavite Mutiny of 1872. But what struck me most was
their unwavering courage, which sparked a bit of hope and admiration in me. It was a reminder
that even in the face of adversity, resilience can bring about real change. This made the film
