Quarter 3 – Module 11:
Writing a Simple Story
Introductory Message
This Self-Learning Module (SLM) is prepared so that you, our dear learners, can
continue your studies and learn while at home. Activities, questions,
directions, exercises, and discussions are carefully stated for you to understand
each lesson.
Each SLM is composed of different parts. Each part shall guide you step-by-
step as you discover and understand the lesson prepared for you.
Pre-tests are provided to measure your prior knowledge on lessons in each
SLM. This will tell you if you need to proceed on completing this module or if
you need to ask your facilitator or your teacher’s assistance for better
understanding of the lesson. At the end of each module, you need to answer
the post-test to self- check your learning. Answer keys are provided for each
activity and test. We trust that you will be honest in using these.
In addition to the material in the main text, Notes to the Teacher are also
provided to our facilitators and parents for strategies and reminders on how
they can best help you on your home-based learning.
Please use this module with care. Do not put unnecessary marks on any part of
this SLM. Use a separate sheet of paper in answering the exercises and tests.
And read the instructions carefully before performing each task.
If you have any questions in using this SLM or any difficulty in answering the
tasks in this module, do not hesitate to consult your teacher or facilitator.

This module will help you improve your skill and knowledge as a pupil. At the
same time, it will enable you to learn at your own pace. All the activities were
prepared and designed for you to deepen your understanding on the given
competency for grade 3.

1. Write a simple story. (EN2WC-Iva-e-22); and
2. Identify the elements of a simple story.

11 Writing a Simple Story

In this lesson, you will be able to practice your creativity and imagination
through writing simple stories.

Asking and answering questions demonstrate understanding of text, referring


explicitly to the text as the basis for the answers. Asking questions helps
readers monitor their comprehension and stay engaged and interested in their
reading.

You will find out the process on how you can come up with a simple story. Are
you ready? Let us start!

“Tina, the Lost Bird”

Once upon a time, there was a bird named Tina who was lost in the forest.
Dino, a boy scout, saw her shed tears. He asked her, “Why are you
crying little bird?”
“I don’t know my way back home,” answered Tina.

Dino took Tina on his palm and they both looked for Tina’s home-nest.
On a leafy tree, they found her home.
They became friends from then on.

Stories need a few things. A simple story has four elements. These are the title,
setting, characters and plot.

Recall the story “Tina, the Lost Bird.” Let us identify its title, setting, characters
and plot.

What I Can Do

Make a simple story with your parent or with anyone in your family. Talk first
about your favorite animals and those animals could be your characters in your
story.

Have a discussion or planning using these simple story writing questions:

1. What is the title of your story?

2. Who is/are the characters in the story and when and where is the story
happening? (You may start with the phrase “-Once upon a time, )

3. What is the first event/ What does the animal do that could start the action
in your story?

4. What is the next event? What is the end of the story?
