Week 3

Lesson Plan: Holidays and Celebrations (Grade 4)

Duration: 50 minutes
Method: PPP (Presentation, Practice, Production)

Objective:

 Enhance students' conversational fluency and confidence.

 Teach vocabulary and phrases related to holidays and celebrations.

 Practice constructing meaningful dialogues.

Materials Needed:

 Flashcards with holiday-related images

 Smart board

 Dialogue strips for role-play

 Handout with relevant vocabulary and phrases

Lesson Outline:

1. Presentation (15 minutes)

Goal: Introduce the topic and relevant vocabulary/phrases.

1. Warm-up (5 minutes):

o Ask:

 “What is your favorite holiday?”

 “What do you do during that holiday?”

o Encourage 3–4 students to share short answers.

2. Introduce Vocabulary (10 minutes):


Use flashcards or pictures to explain key terms:

o Holidays: Christmas, Diwali, Lunar New Year, Thanksgiving, Eid.

o Celebration Words: gift, tradition, feast, fireworks, decorations.

o Phrases:

 "We celebrate by..."

 "On this day, we usually..."

 "I love this holiday because..."


Write vocabulary and phrases on the board.

2. Practice (20 minutes)

Goal: Practice using vocabulary and phrases in structured dialogues.

1. Leveled Dialogues:

Level 1 (Basic):

o A: "What is your favorite holiday?"

o B: "My favorite holiday is Christmas."

o A: "Why do you like it?"

o B: "Because we have gifts and a big dinner."

Level 2 (Intermediate):

o A: "How do you celebrate Diwali?"

o B: "We light lamps and make sweets."

o A: "That sounds fun! Do you celebrate with your family?"

o B: "Yes, we all gather together."

Level 3 (Advanced):

o A: "What is a special tradition in your culture?"

o B: "During Lunar New Year, we give red envelopes to children."

o A: "That's interesting! What else do you do?"

o B: "We eat special food and watch fireworks."

2. Pair Work (10 minutes):

o Distribute the dialogue strips and have students practice in pairs.

o Switch roles to ensure all students try different dialogues.

3. Guided Role-Play (10 minutes):

o Students create short holiday-themed dialogues using the vocabulary and


phrases.

o Example scenario: Planning a holiday party.

o Monitor and provide feedback.

3. Production (15 minutes)

Goal: Encourage free conversation using the topic.

1. Class Discussion (7 minutes):

o Topic: "If you could create your own holiday, what would it be like?"

o Students share ideas using phrases learned.

2. Group Activity (8 minutes):

o Divide students into small groups.

o Task: Plan a celebration for a chosen holiday.

o Include details like activities, food, and decorations.

o Present their plans to the class.
