1. SMART Product Goals
1.1 Goal:

Launch a feature that allows users to receive personalized product recommendations

based on their search and purchase habits.

• Specific: Develop an AI feature that makes product recommendations based on

user behavior, preferences, and purchase history using machine learning models.
• Measurable: After three months of implementation, increase conversion rate by
15% with a minimum of 25% of consumers interacting with suggested products.
• Achievable: Integrate into the platform without altering the entire system by
building on top of the current infrastructure.
• Relevant: Align with the company’s strategy to enhance customer satisfaction and
expand its influence in e-commerce.
• Time-bound: Development, testing, and deployment of the feature will take place
over a period of six months.

2. Identify Stakeholders and Analyze Requirements

2.1 Stakeholders:

• Customers: Individuals who will use the product recommendation feature.

• Product Development Team: Responsible for developing the functionality and
design.
• AI/Data Science Team: Responsible for building machine learning models for the
recommendation feature.
• Marketing Team: Ensures the target audience is reached and follows the launch
plan.
• Board of Directors: Approves the budget and monitors its efficiency.
• Customer Service Team: Prepares to address user inquiries about the new
feature.

2.2 Requirements Analysis:

Functional Requirements: Recommended products must appear on the homepage and

product detail pages. The algorithm must regularly adjust recommendations, improve
over time, and consider user behavior.

Non-functional Requirements: The new feature must not affect page load times.
Scalabe functionality to support a large user base.

Security Requirements: User data must be protected in compliance with GDPR and
other relevant regulations.

4. Resource Identification
4.1 Personnel:

• Development Team: 5 software engineers (2 frontend, 2 backend, 1 DevOps).

• AI/Data Science Team: 3 data scientists.
• Testing Team: 2 QA testers.
• Marketing Team: 3 marketing specialists.

4.2 Financial:

• Development budget: $150,000 (includes salaries, software, and infrastructure

costs).
• Marketing budget: $50,000 for promotion and user outreach campaigns.

4.3 Equipment:

• Cloud services (AWS or Google Cloud) for running machine learning models and
managing large-scale data.
• Development tools: Git, Jenkins, Jira, Figma (for UI/UX design).
5. Risk Management and Contingency Plan
5.1 Potential Risks:

• Technical Risk: The AI model may not accurately recommend products or meet
performance expectations. Prepare a fallback plan to use a rule-based
recommendation system if the AI model is not ready.
• Security Risk: User data may be exposed during the implementation of the
personalized recommendation system. Build strong firewalls and encrypt data in
compliance with security regulations.
• User Risk: Users may not engage much with recommended products. Adjust the
recommendation strategy based on user feedback and implement a more targeted
marketing campaign.

6. Marketing Plan for Product Launch

6.1 Marketing Goals:

Promote the new feature to at least 50% of current users within 2 weeks of launch, with a
target engagement rate of at least 25%.

6.2 Marketing Strategy:

• Teaser Campaign (Before Launch): Use email marketing and social media ads
to introduce the new feature. Include short demo videos highlighting personalized
shopping experiences.
• Social Media & Influencer Marketing: Collaborate with influencers in the e-
commerce space to promote the new feature. Post on platforms like Facebook,
Instagram, and TikTok with the campaign hashtag #ShoppingMadeForYou. Send
in-app notifications or emails encouraging users to try the product
recommendation feature.
• Loyalty Program: Create promotional offers for users who try the recommended
products, offering discount vouchers or reward points for using the feature.
