SERIAL NUMBER: SH1721 SUBJECT TITLE: CONTEMPORARY PHILIPPINE ARTS FROM THE CREDIT: 3 units (3 hours lecture per week)

COURSE DESCRIPTION: This subject covers various forms of contemporary art found across the Republic of the Philippines. Also, the school’s respective
regional/provincial/municipal location will be one of the focal points of learning. The subject aims to provide students awareness and
appreciation of the contemporary arts within their municipality/city, province, or region of ethnic origin and/or current residency. Another focal
point is the proclamation of Philippine National Artists and National Living Treasures as significant contributors in Philippine contemporary arts.
Lastly, the subject looks into the nature and dynamics of Philippine town fiestas, dances, and cloth/weaving patterns as a tangible reflection of
culture. Through this subject, students will have substantial knowledge, in-depth understanding, and a renewed sense of pride in Philippine
cultural heritage. Having gained all three, students will have the necessary tools in order to pursue individual career objectives with creativity,
passion, and open-mindedness.

COURSE OUTCOMES: After successful completion of this course, the student should be able to:
CO1. ascertain the various forms of contemporary art along with its precursors within the Republic of the Philippines,
CO2. familiarize themselves with the country’s National Artists and National Living Treasures as individuals who have made significant
contributions to contemporary and traditional works of art respectively,
CO3. gain in-depth appreciation of Philippine contemporary arts done by different groups of people in the country,
CO4. create the most appropriate contemporary art form/s of choice in order to promote the culture of the school’s respective
regional/provincial/municipal location, and
CO5. develop national pride in our country’s wealth of contemporary arts and artists especially those found within the school’s respective
location (regional/provincial/municipal/city-based).
