Aim & Objectives
Aim
 The aim of this project is to build object detection based automatic
waste segregation system using robotic arm and Raspberry Pi micro
controller.

Objectives
 To build the waste segregation system for categorizing garbage (
paper, plastic, bottle, can, cardboard etc..) in real time.
 To create an automatic segregation system that reduce human
exposure to harmful waste.
 To create a system that is affordable, reliable, and energy-efficient.

and robotics for real-time waste detection and segregation.

 To design a 4-DOF robotic arm to calculate the angles of the


arm's joints for picking up and locating the objects in their
dedicated basket with smooth motion.

 To construct a prototype system that can be adapted for


various environments, including households, offices,
industrial, municipal, and biomedical applications.

Introduction
 Due to today’s overpopulation and fast urbanization , waste
management system become an essential issue for the world.
 The amount of municipal solid garbage produced each year
globally is 2.01 billion tonnes, with at least 33% of it needing
to be handled in a way that protects the environment.
 The volume of waste that is being produced currently exceeds
the capacity of manual processes,Manual sorting is also labor-
intensive, slow, and hazardous.
 Paper, plastics, metals, and glass are just a few examples of
the many dry waste materials that can be recycled or recovered
to create new goods or energy.

 Automated Waste Segregation System improves waste
management systems by efficiently sorting and separating
different types of waste.
 The system included two modules:
1. Waste detection and segregation module
2. Robotic arm placing module
 The waste segregation module comprises the object detection
model for detecting the waste, while the robotic module picks
up the objects according to their type and places them in their
dedicated basket.
